Dr Positivity wrote:JV being consensus BPA is revisionist history IMO. What's true is that Jonas was an overwhelming/consensus pick to go 4th overall to the Cavs if the top 3 was Irving/Williams/Kanter and it was a shock that they didn't take him. However it's a misconception that this means he was consensus BPA. The reason Jonas could be overwhelming consensus Cavs pick and not consensus BPA, is because there was 0 chance of the Cavs taking a PG 4th. The consensus top 5 picks were Irving, Williams, Kanter, Valanciunas and Knight in some order.

^ Disagree with your 'top 5' in any order. Biyombo was slated as #2 or in the top 5 for a greater amount of time then Knight was (2011 Nike Hoop Summit). In fact, I recall Knight slipping out of the top 5 for a extended period of time in mocks when this was occuring, only reaching #5 at the highest in the weeks leading up to the draft. Cleveland was projected to take Val for a lengthy amount of time which is why it was a shock they reached for TT.

The premise of your post is right in it that Val wasn't a clear BPA. It's been said that Val forced Cleveland's hand however with his agent trying to steer Val towards Toronto by using his buyout as leverage. Can't blame Cleveland for avoiding a potentially hazardous/messy situation that the buyout entailed.

IIRC nobody came close to touching Williams for the 2nd overall pick any more than Evan Turner or Michael Beasley in their drafts. It was a "Who's #1, Irving or Williams" debate, whether they were the top 2 prospects wasn't argued. MIN taking Williams was debated, but the alternative was trading the pick

I'm really concerned about apathy setting in even with the NHL lockout this franchise has really
become Clippers North or Golden State East.

i'm just tired of jose, bargs, BC and management. nothing personal against jose, the guy tries and is a capable backup who can fill in as starter and do well, but it's been 6-7 years of total ****. i'm sick of having the softest, worst rebounding "big man" in history on this team. and then having his biggest fan running everything? change is needed

It could be argued that DeRozan wasn't even the best prospect available. There was a lot to like about Jennings

wrong. jennings wasnt even invited to the green room. not getting minutes in europe hurt his stock and teams didnt think he was the real deal. derozan was the best prospect available. and my personal opinion is that jrue holiday is better than jennings anyways and he should of been the pick if we could do it over again.

you said it right. thats exactly how i feel and how alot of posters feel. its tough to try and have a defence oriented team and have jose and bargs as rotation players and they cant play defence.

If he does nothing to improve this lineup, he deserves to go. He has a very small window of opportunity.

Some great points heres my take,The franchise is clearly at a crossroads here, one path is Colangelo's plan to continue piling on weak/mediocre assets and build off the current core of Bargnani, Derozan, Val, Lowry and Fields. The other is to fire BC and start a rebuild. If we want a competitive team capable of making the playoffs and going deep we need a way better core. Colangelo has made his plan clear he will force this team to be competitive and his goal as he has stated him self is to make the ACC sell out like previous years during the Bosh, VC era this season. The fans have to make a decision whether they are going to support this b.s marketing of incapable players as stars (Bargs, Fields, DeMar etc.), or will they take action. Bottom line none of the players other than Lowry can score when it matters, and defensively they don't have enough of an impact. They don't have the talent and have had more than enough time to prove otherwise. We need BC fired not only that we need to boycott going to the games!

As a former BC supportor the party is over the plan has failed it's time to start new. For me it was the Fields signing and Ross over Drummond pick. Time to clean house I can't take this garabge much longer.

The Lowry situation this summer is going to be a KEY moment for this franchise. There's 3 ways it can go

Door A: Lowry is extended

Pro: Lowry can be our 3rd franchise player after VC and Bosh. With development to Valanciunas, Ross, Demar, etc. we can build a playoff team around him and consistent success

Con: Is this locking into mediocrity and 30 W teams, without the assets to improve the team, now that we're capped out and wouldn't be picking top 5 in the draft

Door B: Lowry doesn't take an extension, but we play out the season with him unsigned, hoping to ink him to a huge contract next summer

Pro: Same as Door A if our plan works out, and Lowry takes a big contract at the end of the year

Con: Taking a HUGE risk by letting him go to UFA. If Lowry left in UFA like Bosh... wow. That would set this franchise so far

Door C: Lowry is traded after 1 season

Pro: The team is effectively nuked, a Bargnani trade likely happens shortly after. The team goes full "tank4Wiggins"-tard in 2014. We rebuild around Valanciunas, Demar, Ross, Davis, the Lowry trade return (hopefully substantial), the Bargnani trade return, and a lot more capspace than in the maxed out Lowry situation

Con: The team extends its playoff drought to 7-9 years and lets its rep take a hit

Personally I think Door B is the one we should absolutely avoid. Letting Lowry go to UFA is just asking for trouble IMO, like not trading Bosh when he was uncommitted. If Lowry is willing to sign a max extension I at least feel a little better about our position. But IMO, the right, if unpopular move, is to trade Lowry next summer for young talent and/or draft picks, and tanking in 2014. The 2014 draft is SO good. Being the worst team in the league that year guarantees you a franchise-y talent. Hopefully we'd draft a franchise player in 2014 and when added to Demar, Ross, Valanciunas, what we could get for Lowry and Bargnani, we'd already have lots of talent for him to play with and turn the team around quickly

Hello everyone, long time reader first time poster here on Real GM!

I think what frustrates me most about BC and being a Toronto Raptors fan is that BC doesn't know how to buy LOW and sell HIGH.

I think everybody can see that Andrea Bargnani is pretty much maxed out as far as improvement goes and considering we were "tanking" last season and Andrea Bargnani was playing at career best levels.BC should have traded him for future picks/expiring contact or quality players at that point since we were tanking anyway.
I think we have missed the boat on trading Andrea for anything decent at this point, and will just have to settle for whatever happens in the future!.
With BC not being able to pull the trigger on players in trade sense & make the right moves "at the right time" ,the players stay in slumps longer knowing they are unlikely to be traded since Toronto will get next too nothing in return -(Landry Fields?) however had we persisted with Bargs for years and then traded him would be a nice wake up call for the players, and in return brings us assets.

On the other side of the coin BC has paid more than he had too for Landry Fields,Demarr Derozan & few years back Amir Johnson, don't get me wrong ...i actually like DD & Amir but....why pay more than we have too right?
Not too mention we signed Linas Klieza for 4.6 million to have him come of the bench for 12 minutes a game.

Right now Toronto are in a whole,Im still a believer in Dwayne Casey at this point ,but it's time for a shake up of the GM, a new set of eyes on the picture, a new outlook for the road ahead.

So yes i think Brian Collangelo should be sacked, clearly his methods are not working...It's time

Welcome to the movement my friend. Spread the word like the gospel. The Fields signing was the last straw for me. A lot of Colangelo apologists in the summer said that Fields would prove me wrong, that i was an idiot, and that Colangelo did a great job getting Fields since he was the "glue guy" at the 3 spot (LOL). Where are you Colangelo and Fields lovers who were trashing me and others in the summer? Nowhere to be found. I love the unity we have reached on the board when it comes to BC, or Big Clown as i call him now. Keep up the good work.

This consensus is bringing a tear to me eye (LOL). Finally the light has been shed on everyone. Finally everyone has woken up from being put to sleep after watching this pathetic team the last 6 years; where our starting PF/C can not grab a rebound to save his life, and our starting SF spot always has an overpaid bum (i.e. Kapono, Hedo, Kleiza and Fields). After all this darkness, i see a light at the end of the tunnel, since after 5 years of missed playoffs, even MLSE, being the incompetent organization they are, will not have fortitude to bring back Colangelo after seeing what he did spending 19 M over three years on Fields, and crippling this franchise with one bad move after another.

Every time somethings gone wrong, BC has found a way to make amends with the fans by making some kind of trade. The most recent one was when Nash fell through and he traded for Lowry... I think something is in the works and we can expect a trade in the near future. I'm hoping BC makes the right decision here because his jobs definitely on the line.
