Sooooo, I read that KD likely gets traded in the off-season. What would you trade?

KD and Nik Richards
For
Poeltl, RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick and 2027 1st pick

PG IQ - Shead - Jakobe
SG Ingram - Jakobe - Ochai
SF Durant - Ochai - Battle
PF Scottie - Mogbo
C Richards - 1st pick/Chomche

I don't see how we could not do that deal. Not sure why PHX would though. None of the guys we're trading are legit building blocks. I think PHX would rather get one legit young stud than 3 good quality players.

If we get KD we should resign Boucher so we can have version 2.0 of "long bois" called....lanky bois (KD, BI, and CB) lol

KD has one yr left on his deal before he's a FA, PHX has no leverage in the situation. He's gonna end up in Dallas because Nico is his boy and that's a good way for Nico to save face

Gafford PJ Caleb Martin Powell Hardy + a pick or something of the sort

That's what I'm saying. If Shae just wants to come here, we're fine. If he does a Kawhi ask to both Toronto/OKC, the Thunder will simply outbid us and he'll stay there.

All the eggs in the "he wants to come home even if it's a worse team now and in the future".

On the other hand, it almost certainly requires that we trade 2 of RJ/Jak/BI/IQ to make the cap room available leading to cheap youth/picks. The byproduct is incentive enough to make this a good plan even if you strike out.

What eggs are in that basket, let alone all of them?

I do agree though we might as well maintain the flexibility to do it if the opportunity arises.

Just the incentives for the move to happen.

The Giannis example has a few:
- giants of Africa connection/international
- Championship pedigree
- core of team was younger than the Bucks
- tradeable assets around par

A lot of different reasons that could entice a star.

SGA you're just looking at hometown guy. Maybe Masai luster, if it hasn't worn off (objectively he should lose this to Presti here to; who has built two finals worthy cores)

That's a whole load of below average players lol. That's the funny thing with these big 3's. They almost always end up failing because the teams have no depth after having 3 max players. That Dallas team would not really scare anyone with a nearly 34 y.o Kyrie, nearly 33 AD, and 37 y.o KD. All three are injury prone too.

As a basketball fan I do prefer the depth, as a Mavs fan I'd like to see Ky KD and AD, that's a trio that complements eachother. Add lively max Christie and Naji Marshall, that's 6 guys that stack up well. Depth would be crazy

What do we feel Dick could fetch us on the open market?

Given the amount of money we have on the books, RJ's extension eligibility and Agbaji's extension eligibility, we're going to need to make a move. We have too many wings and not enough PGs and bigs.

Moving Dick won't solve all of our problems but assuming we intend to keep RJ, what can Dick get us?

I don't think Gradey would get us anything that improves the roster. He hasn't shown enough yet, especially with his 3 point shooting being only average. That said, I think Gradey's shooting will improve with Ingram on the team and it makes more sense to keep that skill over RJ's. Not to mention that Gradey makes 1/5th of what RJ does.

So what could RJ fetch?

We need to trade one of our wings for a backup big imo, Day'Ron Sharpe could be interesting. Walker Kessler could be a name to look at as well.

I also think RJ is the one who will get the squeeze. Primarily due to his salary.

I don't think we'll be able to get Kessler for one of JKW or GD. Especially considering we're talking about dealing with Aingy. Sharpe could be interesting.

We will have to see which teams fall short in the playoffs and whether one of them might think RJ is the piece they need to get over the hump.

Fair enough but where around the league are you going to trade him?

I don't see any team around the league that would be interested except MAYBE ATL and that's a huge maybe considering that they have no assets and will probably moving off of Trae sometime within the next year or so.

RJ made a comment the other day after talking about BI.

He said playing in Toronto was special and it isn't about money for him. It was almost like he was putting it out there that he would sign fir less to stay in TO.

Can't find the clip unfortunately...so don't quote me exactly.

Like Brunson did with the Knicks? It's not unprecedented!

Pretty sure Olynyk said something along the same lines and then got traded.

Dallas is a decent fit now, they need another scorer on the perimeter.

Milwaukee I could see Kuzma and their 2031 first if Kuzma is an outright disaster, which is definitely on the table as a possibility.

Heat lost Jimmy, could use a scoring wing.

Nets might have extra money to burn.

Clippers O isn't great, Harden is aging and Kawhi is too and a scoring forward to play while Kawhi sits in the regular season makes sense.

Kings in a Demar 3-way trade if they just want to keep being competitive but get younger, or even Demar coming back and we give him the bench to run might not sound completely insane in a year.

Utah has zero 2s or 3s I like right now, and maybe they draft a PG this draft and still have zero.

Portland roster is chaotic, maybe Grant goes out in a 3-way trade and they get younger at that forward spot.

If the Celtics move off of a big payroll guy, maybe a 3 way trade.

I don't know how much value RJ has, but you can get to almost 10 teams where it's plausible, if you assume roster changes this summer, injuries and since 2/3rds of the teams aren't on the list, you can probably add a couple and there's less to drop off the list. Who thought Dallas could really use a decent wing like RJ now, he might close games for them at the 3 to help Kyrie and AD, I'm not sure PJ will work there or Klay has a ton of time left. Also Kyrie might leave and they're desperate for some scoring and ballhandling.

You want Kuzma and a '31 first (6 years from now)?
Why?

Don't we want a 24 yr old slashing two guard that's clearly developing his play making?

You'd rather have a 29 yr old back up forward getting paid $3m less?

Just illogical.
