Its not something that has never been done before. Of course you never know with injuries but its not like there are no chances that we will see a healthy JO posting 18-9 with 2 blocks. For a guy that will be a 23 mil expiring deal in a year, its worth the risk.

Let's not even put VC in this discussion. I have a lot to say about it but won't now while in my depressed frame of mind.

Raptors basically traded a backup (albiet a very good one) pg and someone who was becoming a cancer for player who fits a need/position for them. Lets not forget that Ford missed time twice this season because of neck injuries and plus he has already missed a whole season before. This is a gamble for the Raps but not a long term one, only 2 years left in the deal. Value wise i would say this trade is a wash, but say the raptors won it because they filled a greater need then the pacers.

Its good, but we should have gotten more after trading our pick along with ford and nesterovic. We could have at least gotten their 2nd round pick. Our team will be better but we still could've gotten more. That's my only problem.

No, absolutely, if healthy, JO represents the kind of defensive presence we have lacked/needed.

I just think people are seeing him as this bruising true post presence on offense, and he's much more like Bosh in that regard, if that.

But to me the thing is, his health. It's low odds a 4 year pattern attached to a bad attitude suddenly reverses itself. If he was a gym rat, etc. then, ok, better odds. But as is, hitting 30, averaging 50 games for the past 4 years...well, I wouldn't suggest holding our collective breaths.

And on the other side, it's improbable he misses 80 games or whatever, either, though that would be preferable to playing 40-60, imo, especially if, as usually happens, the health issues are worse the later the season.

Best case scenarios: Bosh and JO both play 75+ games AND are healthy for the playoffs OR Bosh and JO miss most of the season. Anything in between leaves us right about there...in between.

True. But best case scenario would you say Conference finals atleast (the way we are currently setup)? I think KG and Perkins don't provide the inside true post presence either. I think Bosh + Oniel provide better overall offense and perhaps equal defence as well where Oniel takes the bigger player and allows Bosh to take the help assignment.

Add a 20ppg wing scorer and do you think a NBA final is possible? The only player i see in the similar Pierce talent level and who might be available is Vince. Do you think Adding Vince to our current team makes us true contendors? A motivated and healthy Vince i mean. Maybe sign Posey to full MLE

Oniel/Rasho
Bosh/Hump
Posey/Moon
Vince/Kapno
Jose/Ukic

Two random thoughts:

1) JO and CB are both left handed right, do they really play on opposite blocks? I thought I always see JO setting up on the right block just like CB.

2) You just know TJ is going to try and take over every single time he goes up against the Raps now. A couple of times a year he is going to be amazing, breaking down Calderon and getting tons of those lovely improvised dimes he always drops and mid range fades. RealGM'ers will call for Colangelo's head. The other two times he will try too hard, overdribble and launch too many shots of his own.

JO is not left handed he can finish with his left well but he shoots with his right.

JO is right handed, but he does use his left hand a lot for hooks/blk shots. And yes they like to opperate on the same side of the basket.

I'm surprised we bought out Garbo so early when we could have used him here to get this deal done now:

Garbajosa
Ford
Rasho
#17
for
O'Neal
#41

That works cap-wise and would have cleared things up a bit quicker.

take that celtics....now we got big three (the right way not 2 franchise players for some expirings)

CALDERON/BOSH/O'NEAL

that is a deadly trio rite there...just imagine the amount of pick n roll that is gonna happen.

I am excited to see Bosh and O"Neal. HP, O'Neal may not be a bruising post presence on O, but SS's stats suggest that he likes to operate in the low post, albeit as a jumpshooter. With Bosh on the high post, I doubt many teams will dare to double team either of them.

I love the summer, but now I wish it was November already!

after hearing this trade for the 1st time when I opened the paper this morning I was dreading the possibility that we had sent the 17th as well and of course that seems to be the case ... right now it's tough for me to judge this trade because of how much i love the draft and all the hope leading up to it ... I feel like I've been Charlie Brown'd ... the football has been pulled away just before we were about to boot it ... loosing the players isn't that big of a deal and if O'neal returns to the old form it will be a good trade for us ... I just hate the fact that I could watch hour after hour of draft night in anticipation of something big coming out of Raptor land only to come away with someone at #41 ... I know it's only the 17th pick but we just traded for a former 17th pick

Return to Toronto Raptors
