This also without having any of his own rationalization of how bad of an idea it would be in the Playoffs to use Poeltl as a roll man where the opposing team will look to force us to either pitch out to non-shooters under pressure or allow them to GLADLY drop the ball off to Poeltl, foul & make him make FTs in crunch time lol absolutely clueless.

There's a reason why even JV who is way more talented than Poeltl can't even touch the floor when Zion is healthy.

The spacing would be horrendous for everyone on the floor.

See but that's the problem with his failed "rationale"...it's NOT JUST about spacing, it's that we LOSE our best shooters and add what would be THE worst shooter of anyone in the starting lineup to an already poor shooting core.

The biggest issues is come Playoffs, teams will WELCOME & likely actually look to have Yak be put in the PnR, deny the mid and force them to either A) pitch out to non-shooters under pressure or B) even more so desired, dump it to Poeltl then foul him & let his butt-ugly FT shooting try & clang them in (also with added pressure) while they essentially give him the Ben Simmons' treatment.

If only 3pt shooting was just about the space created by the ballhandler & rim runner -- the Lakers would be the best in the league but again there's the little issue called ROSTER CONSTRUCTION, more specifically the lack of reliable shooting available on it as it is here -- trade Fred & Gary that is only further amplified and arguably at a much more severe rate.

Between the Ayton or Mo Bamba and one Magic pg, I think I want to go with the Magic package, if only because Ayton is making a lot of money and apparently is lazy

As much as FVV has crapped the bed this year with his shooting, I still think he's an important leader in terms of team culture/hard work. But leadership is more effective when you can do as well as teach, and FVV just hasn't been doing it like we know he can. I think the best case scenario for the team is we bring him back but at a more reasonable number that pays him like a #4/#5 starter. But realistically, I can't see FVV settling him for that. If we wants max money or close to it, it's time to move him.

If Gary is traded - and he probably should be - then we need some shooting coming back.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

bobby marks trade suggestions
https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/insider/story/_/id/35432858/2023-nba-trade-deadline-eastern-conference-deal-predictions

Trade we would like to see: John Collins and Vit Krejci to the Toronto Raptors for Chris Boucher, Thaddeus Young, Khem Birch and a 2024 top-10-protected first-round pick. The first is top-10 protected in 2025 and 2026. It will turn into a 2026 and 2027 second if not conveyed.

Trade we would like to see: Trent to New Orleans for Devonte' Graham, Jaxson Hayes and a 2027 first-round pick (less favorable of New Orleans and Milwaukee). If either first falls in the top-5, New Orleans will send Toronto 2028 and 2029 second-round picks.

Both suck.

The team doesn't need someone like John Collins especially not at the costs of future FRPs OR trading Gary for a mystery box pick 4+ years now & it's supposed to be the WORSE one....Bobby would've been better off keeping those ideas to himself.

I would look to move OG as well, only because his value will never be any higher than it is right now and also because he's an injury prone player. Unless we're banking on him to stay healthy long term (unlikely), it'd be risky to keep him.

He's only played 48 & 43 games the last 2 seasons at ages 23 & 24 which is pretty concerning.

How about something like:

Tor in: Daniels, Hayes, Graham, Temple, Lewis
Daniels is the obvious prize, but Hayes could be interesting too. Flynn/Lewis is a wash, but maybe a greener pastures thing.

NO in: FVV, Thad, Flynn, Juancho
They shuffle some youth to upgrade their top 8 for a playoff run. I think Fred would do very well for New Orleans, and think his play would fit their style better than the current Raptors.

Just a rough framework for money/roster spots/value. Tinker with it as you will

You might be doing too much. Fred for Daniels and Graham should do it.

I'm kind of a big overdoer, so that tracks lol. But a Lewis/Flynn swap interested me as a chance to give both players a change of scenery where theit skills could be of more use than they currently are.

But yeah, Fred for Daniels/Graham would work for me too.

I actually like that Jaxson Hayes deal Bobby mentioned. Hayes was really good last year when he got major minutes and can defend pretty well. He was a lottery pick for a reason. The Pels are looking to win now with the players they have and Hayes doesn’t really fit what they need at the moment which is more shooting.

Money-wise that isn’t even close unless I’m missing something. I like Terrence Mann though.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

I can’t recall the last time so many trade rumours were swirling about us from such reputable sources. Shams, Fischer, and even McCollum don’t make stuff up. Seems like FVV, GTJ, and maybe even OG want a change of scenery.

Here's an easy one.

Gary Harris, Mo Bamba and the Magic's 2023 2nd round pick (right now the 35th pick) for Gary Trent Jr.

Harris and Bamba are both fully non-guaranteed next season. So you guys get the opportunity to basically audition them for these last 35-40 games and see if you want to retain them or not. If not, no financial commitment long-term and you walk away with a high 2nd round pick.

Harris can replace some of the 3PT shooting lost with GTJ's departure. Bamba has also developed into a nice shooter himself, 142-374 (.380) over the last year and a half.

Some of Bamba's advanced metrics are actually pretty solid this year too: +1.0 BPM, +1.2 NET Rating. I'm not gonna tell you he's a great starting caliber guy or anything like that, but he can at the very least play 15-20 MPG capably.

Magic reunite GTJ with his college teammate Wendell Carter and hopefully get a long-term starting SG that fits with the rest of their roster from an age perspective.

PhilBlackson wrote:Now the rumours are per Shams that both PHX & ORL would look to pursue Fred in the off-season which is BIG news because Fred WANTED to go to the Suns BEFORE re-signing with us but they had traded for CP3.

Suns obviously can't afford to sign him out-right so get that FVV + Boucher deal for Ayton done now. I'm open to working with ORL if the deal involves either of their lottery picks, if not good luck to them luring him there. Especially when my guess would be we'd just work out a S&T for him for Ayton in the off-season if Raps really wanted to hold on to him for the rest of the season for whatever reason.

The Suns make no sense to me. They have CP3 and Booker, no cap space, and nothing really to offer us. Why would FVV want to go there? Why would they go into the tax to be back court heavy?

Why would the Magic want to sign another undersized guard? Fred always says he’s all about winning. Why go to a team with no chance of winning anytime soon? Anyways they’d be a good trade partner for us due to their young players and draft picks.

New Orleans has to think about Zion's injury history. Always something with that guy. I would really go hard after OG.

Plus it helps them when teams go small and they gotta bench JV in playoffs.

Dont think they'd hit Masai's price though.
