Re: Haynes: Damian Lillard Requests Trade
If I'm POR, I trade Dame to BOS for Brown and call his bluff.
See if he's willing to deal with the backlash of refusing a trade and the public scrutiny of claiming he "just wants a chance to compete for a championship" as his odds would be pretty much the same there. So it forces him to admit that he's just being a spoiled brat like every other superstar...see if he's willing to be an all out hypocrite.
It's the best young player at a position of need they can get (assuming Brown really wants to be the man & will re-sign) and you gave Dame an opportunity to win which is all he REALLY should be able to ask for.

Bos got worse IMO and with Dame it'll be easier to defend them for us if we keep our main guys.

Problem for Portland is Brown is a free agent next summer. You want to take back a player on a deal or clearly willing to resign.
I agree with you though. Dame says he wants to win and then picks his preferred destination. So he wouldn’t be ok going to 5-10 other teams that’ll be in the title hunt next season? Portland doesn’t owe him anything. They’ve given him multiple max deals and now it’s time for them to cash in.
For all the criticism he gets, I gotta give LeBron credit for never pulling this nonsense. Each time he moved was via free agency.

Jake Fischer's article 10 min ago pretty much states that Tyler Herro makes no sense as the main piece coming back since they already have Scoot/Simons/Sharpe. Portland wants a more defensive-minded young player to fit their young group
OG Anunoby actually makes so much sense for them and a far better fit with their young core. This sounds like Kawhi all over again
I don't see it. We don't have the depth to make a trade like this. We wouldn't be good.
I agree we don't have the depth 100% but this isn't a regular trade to me. Everything is based on circumstances.
Considering more than half of the league is already set in terms of roster and then there are teams who obviously won't even look at Dame right now (Magic, Hornets, Pistons, etc..)....it comes down to what leverage does Portland really have? Not to mention the trade request is public, which diminishes more leverage from the Blazers.
I guess what I'm saying is...if the one and final offer from Miami is based around Tyler Herro.... then we can easily match that by making an offer based on OG Anunoby. Portland will be more inclined to take our offer due to fit and OG >. Herro.
Hypothetically between the two offers:
Tyler Herro + Jovic + Picks + Salary Fillers
OG Anunoby + Precious + Picks + Salary Fillers
which one would you choose?
Granted all of this doesn't matter if there's another team with a star player package

Herro's outgoing but won't be going to Portland which is why they're looking for a 3rd team. Herro has value, I'm surprised how many disparage his skillset.

Would you trade OG (+ Boucher) for Herro? Could it be a three-way, with Heat getting Dame, Portland getting OG, Boucher and DR + whatever picks Miami can send, and Raps getting Herro. Would that satisfy Portland?
I like OG and don't like Herro so much. But the Raptors desperately need a big for small trade to balance the roster.

I like what Herro brings, and think he could definitely be useful here... However, he's injured a lot, up until this free agency period I thought he was overpaid (maybe not anymore), and not sure if I'd trade OG for him... but it's not bad considering he's only 23 and we have a glut of forwards & lack 3pt shooting.

And Jimmy will be 34 by start of the season and his intense playing style adds a lot more mileage on his body too.
If Portland holds out on giving into Dame’s unreasonable “Miami only” demand, then the Heat will become more desperate and so will Dame, who might then widen his list of teams.
The Blazers will always have suitors for Lillard. But the Heat — among other interested teams — rarely have the opportunity to acquire a player of his talent.
The Blazers should not cave into this pressure. I hope they strip Miami bare if he ultimately goes there.

I like Herro too, but…
• he already has a big contract,
• I sense a flashy attitude where he might think he’s above Toronto and only want to play for a glamour franchise (just my own personal vibe I get from him, I couldn’t point to any specific indication that this is true or fair)
• I wonder how much the Heat’s playoff success is attributed to his not being in the lineup and his defensive inefficiencies being resolved by them being forced to play others his minutes, a bit of addition by subtraction.
I would rather get someone like Sharpe or Scoot in return as the centrepiece for Toronto.

Completely random thought but I wonder how long before people would start rating Dame over CP3 historically if he won a ring.

Immediately? If he's a big reason why his team wins the ring, which I assume he would be.

I would think so too...like I said random thought because I seen a highlight of the 2 playing each other so popped into my head that I know a lot of people see CP3 as a top 5 PG all time and no one really talks about Dame like that, so just thought I wonder how long before you hear fans & media saying he's surpassed Paul because you don't even really hear that conversation now and it could be arguable that Dame's career isn't that far off from CP's...I could see some people saying they actually believe Dame is the better player historically NOW, but just thought to myself, surprised that hasn't been a conversation yet within the media.

So jroy, what's your prediction for Lillard? I think 2 Miami 1sts, Robinson, and Herro. Maybe a 2nd as well if Riley feels generous.
Edit: our franchise got burnt a couple times by Riley, he might do it again.

I really like Herro however, I think we could do better for OG - whom I think might be a good idea to trade as I don't think we'll keep him. I'm looking at OKC who have 18 players under contract, plus Cason (making it 19) and an excess of frps that they need to move. OG for Jalen Williams, Cason, Bertans, 2024 frp, 2025 frp

He will go where he wants to go. The list of teams may grow but he won’t be exiled.
A 3-4 team trade might be necessary to sweeten that pot. Herro needs to be rerouted somewhere his talents are needed.
The end probably starts at your idea and goes up a bit, but nothing outrageous.

You're being logical about the situation (and I do feel for you, it sucks....that could easily be the Raptors in the same situation).
However all this talk of sending him to Charlotte or Detroit, or letting him sit without pay is just nonsense. We can argue that it should happen, but any of us who follow the NBA closely know it won't. He's a Top 75 player and box-office draw. He is one of a handful of players that people actually pay money to see. There is not a chance in hell the season starts with a star player like that not playing, or sulking on some backwater team.
At some point some team will need to make an example of someone, but it won't be Dame. The sacrificial lamb will have to be a lesser star who tries this next (Jaylen Brown?).

He did. Cronin played it. But I dont like giving them 1 team and then saying you wont be professional anywhere else. That's not right in my eyes.
Yeah I’m in a bit of a moral dilemma on this one.
Lol you’re in a bit of a dilemma? You must’ve not been a fan when Vince was here.
Professionalism is a base level expectation from a NBA player.

they gave him a $100 mil 2 year extension 2 years from now when they had zero reason to. they did right by dame financially.
Yup they’ve done right by him his whole career. It’s not unfair to ask Dame to help them so the blazers future isn’t completely tanked.
There’s a lot of other good teams that can offer a decent package. Time for Dame to grow up.
