I'm the American government in its entirety. You can call me ARIA and you'll be Jerry (apparently without a point, which essentially makes you useless).

Honestly man, this is an internet forum. If you want to live a life isolated from others opinions, then you shouldn't be posting on an internet forum.

I didn't address you or reply to anyone of your comments, therefore not wanting to engage you in any shape way or form, have a nice night.

Take Durant out of that Thunder team and it's a meh team.
Take Lebron out of that Heat team and it's a meh team.

You proved my point without even realizing it, carry on now!

Let me guess. Your point was that the Pacers are a superior team to the Heat and Thunder because of their depth and that we should aspire to build a team like theirs.

If they don't trade for Paul how successful do you think that team is?

End this thread... it's a waste of discussion.

We might not be tanking at the moment, but If we have another horrid start I wouldn't be surprised if he blows it up.

If that's how internet forums worked there would never be any discussion. Every thread would consist of literally one post.

If you eat breadcrumbs for a year you have a solid chance at eating steak for 7 years.

Or you can eat fast food for a year, get diabetes, and have to keep taking insulin just to stay alive.

And then you realize that the insulin wants a huge raise. And then the insulin gets fat and lazy and gets diabetes. And then the doctor says you better go on a diet before you die. So you start eating breadcrumbs. And you wish you'd been eating them two years ago, because now you have man-boobs, while your leaner meaner rivals are banging supermodels in front of your house, which they bought out of foreclosure when you suffered a coma for eating a jolly rancher.

jvuc wrote:Can you tankers put together a glossary of terms. For example,
1a. Tanking = Dumping good players for bad contracts and playing bad players to improve the draft position
1b. Multi-year tank where the team is bad for a few years accumulating picks and high draft positions
1c. A single year tank often brought upon by injury or poor start of the season where management tries to improve their drafting position and sheds expensive non-core players for picks/young players
2. Rebuilding = Trading veteran players for bad contracts and picks but still trying to instill a winning culture and develop young players
3. Retooling = Trading away inefficient players, UFA and veterans for low cost or young productive players and picks while still keeping the team competitive

There are more definitions as well. But I find this thread is jumbled because most don't even agree what "tank" means and are using it in a way that differs from another person view of tank. Heck, I don't even know if my definition are accurate.

Tanking = (CLE) (PHI)
-Dumping vets for whatever picks/prospects you can get so you are in the 20-25 win range. if you cant get picks/prospects than trade your vets for nothing.
-Taking on assets with bad contracts that dont extend past the yr you expect to exit your tank
-Being extremely cautious with injuries, and letting the coach use bizarre lineups.

Rebuilding = (ORL) (BOS)
-Trading vets for picks/prospects. Trading positive value players for nothing is only used as a last resort.
-Taking on assets with bad contracts that dont extend past the yr you expect to exit your rebuild
-Its unlikly, but winning games with your young team isnt considered a failed rebuild. You wont get a great pick but you must already have some great young players.
-You dont need to have been good to rebuild, you can rebuild a bad team, or a mediocre team.

Retool = (IND) (MIL) (Most teams)
-Build on what you have. Trade redundant players for players of need.

Rebuild/retool hybrid = (HOU)
-Retooling while also collecting picks/prospects, that can be used or traded for a superstar.
-The idea is to balance winning with building on your future.

Win now = (NY) (BRK) (BC)
-Same as retool, but much more relaxed when it comes to trading picks/prospects for vets.

Accelerated rebuild = (BC) (DET)
-Ending a rebuild prematurely, and entering a retool or win now phase.

The time frame can vary depending on each teams situation.

Circumstances can decide which direction you take. If you are retooling but suffer bad injuries or if your team is just bad, you might be forced to tank/rebuild. if you are rebuilding/retooling hybrid, then acquire harden/dwight you can switch it up to straight retool.

The thought of Wiggins on this team gives me chills. However, there's one thing I don't understand about next season. When you talk about tanking are you saying you're going to cheer for the Raptors to lose when you watch them play this season.

Let me give you a scenario. Let's say Jonas was at the line the last game of the season with the team down by one. If he hits both free throws they win and the Raps miss out on the worst record. Do you cheer for him to miss?

Yes.

Okay, if that's the case let me take it a step further. Would you rather JV struggled next year and the Raps got the first pick or JV exceeded expectations and the raps get the sixth pick?

Wiggins/JV would be ideal, but if Jonas emerges as a stone cold killer in the 4th, keeps making FTs at a 80%+ clip, basically emerging as one of the few post players you can keep late in games, I'd want him to nail those down.

I'd cheer for the guys I don't want on the team/feel need to go in order for the team to improve long-term to miss those free throws, but not Jonas. I want him to ace them because I think he has an absurd ceiling because of his FT ability, length, and IQ. He could be every bit as important to a team as Wiggins... any development on his end is gravy and should be encouraged.

If that means Randle instead of Wiggins, so be it. Randle/JV is a helluva building block anyway.

You don't take in many sporting events live do you?

Ouch, I can only imagine the verbal daggers thrown your way at the ACC if you did that.

The tanking philosophy is philosophy for losers. If Raptors will go this way I'm really sorry JV who have winners mentality and every night go to win the game.

Jokes, so you've either never been to the ACC or when you go you cheer like everyone else. Trust me, if you booed our team while they were winning you'd hear it from a lot of people.
