This is one case where I do not think the opinions on the RealGM Raptor forum will be indicative of the general public.

I mean, the subject of rebranding has been discussed here for years - even before this most recent effort. A lot of people have very specific ideas about what they believe the logo should look like.

For the average person on the street who sees this, their reaction will likely not be nearly as negative.

I'm no graphic designer but isn't it common sense NOT to have FOUR colours in a logo? Silver/gold/red/white/black together is just distracting. Unless they're established colours that are always seen together like red/white/blue, having four colours is too much. The basketball also needs to be the boldest colour, which I'm pretty sure everyone agrees is red. I would think it's just visual psychology 101.

never heard of 4 color rule or against it.

design nowadays is all about flat colors and strict geometric shapes. Less curves in design nowadays

Brooklyn is what they're trying to follow. People wear Brooklyn's gear despite not being Nets fans because the clothes look good and the colors blend well. Raptor fan base is bipolar. They want Casey fired, DeMar traded, Amir traded, and they wanted Masai fired when he drafted Bruno.

Everyone complains no matter what is being released! When the black and gold Raptors OVO shirt was released for Drake night it was hated on till no end! Everyone started ripping the organization...

And its probably the best selling and most popular piece of Raptors merchandise to date!

No most people wear brooklyn gear because of the legends in hip hop that have came from brooklyn and brooklyn being a "cool city". Hipsters jump at the chance to wear anything jayz likes and to wear anything labeled "cool".

Also why wouldn't people just wear brooklyn gear? Brooklyn gear or the team thats trying to look like brooklyn? Hmm
