I'm surprised how 'lukewarm' many people here are on Chomche. IF things pann out, he could be a top 3-5 pick in a re-draft 5 years from now. I think the biggest risk on Chomche is what if Masai leaves the organization and he is yet to be ready.

I think it's better not to put high expectations on a Bruno-like prospect. Overhyping players tends to result in a lot of whiny fans when things don't pan out the way they hope. I remember fans thinking Pape Sow being a great prospect.

Just finished watching this game.
Offensively he is setting picks for teammates than roll, and playing the dunker spot.
Overall looks good, but I think he needs more lower body strength. So he can have a better foundation for box out. FT stroke looks decent.

After a full season in the G league and camp next year, I think he will be a backup on the roster next year... certainly better than anyone not named Poetle.

I don't know. He's certainly got potential but he's still needs tons of reps in my opinion. He still looks lost on defense. Reacting more than anything. Guys pushing him to the spot he needs to be. I have a hard time seeing him as our backup 5 next year unless we're desperate or he makes major strides.

Our track record of developing 2nd round pick is low as well, particularly for C, they are high risk.

You're surprised a 59th overall pick isn't getting people out of their chairs?

He played in the NIke Hoops Summit. I guess may take a year or 2 but that's a lot of prospects. I would say that he's a Giannis-like prospect. Giannis got to play a lot because the roster was devoid of talent.

He is 18.
When Pascal was 18, he just moved to US and attended high school. Pascal played 2 seasons in college. By the time he got drafted by the Raptors, he is 22.
It is safe to assume Chomche may be 4 years away from being ready. He is still extremely raw.

Putting up numbers while being this raw as a player is why people are pleasantly excited.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

For me it's seeing the potential tools. Like a more fluid Koloko. His soccer background shows on defense; he's already able to move laterally with guards on the GLeague level. That's huge for PnR defense. Also quick to help and recover back to his man if the pass is made.
Like imagine a 6'11 Mogbo as a floor.

Perspective:
When Dick was Chomche's age, he was a freshman at Kansas.
A lot can happen in 2 years...at which point Chomche will be a RFA.
Enjoy the ride people.

And if they don't pan out he might not even make the NBA, cause he was the last pick in the draft. How is it shocking that people aren't planning a parade over this.

Props TZ!

yeah like the pick, love taking a gamble on a raw big with talent and what he's shown by now.
But dude is still far away from being an NBA player if he even gets there.
I'd be shocked if there are super strong opinions on him either way.

High 2nd would be better, but Chomche is a low 2nd round pick, so him reaching his ceiling can be a much higher risk.

If a guy can't stay on the court for 5 minutes in pre-season, he's got a lot of work to do. I will get excited about his progress, if it happens.

It's all relative. Dude was a purchased very-late 2nd rounder. IMO, he has shown very obvious flashes of high ceiling physical tools. He might be the fastest ~7 footer to ever don a Raptor jersey. He's shown upper percentile quickness for a C. The basketball skills and IQ aren't NBA caliber. Let's see what happens. He has things you can't teach.
He's 18. I'm excited to have him in the pipeline.

He has elite physical gifts. Now it's all up to him. We will learn a lot about his drive, work ethic, ability to learn & retain information, processing speed & his ability to adapt while moving thousands of miles away from his home country to a different culture & a different climate.
He is only 4 years older than my son & I can't imagine my son taking something like this on 4 years from now.
There are a lot of bumps in the road & obstacles to navigate past. He looks like a man & seems mature for his age, but he is still a teenager. Only his coach & trainers will have a clear understanding of his short term trajectory.

Fair but drafting a guy like this is exactly what you should be doing with that low a pick. Raw but with big upside if he pans out years from now
