Lowry loved being in Houston, and he's talked about the fact that he was immature when he was there and he wished he handled things differently. This is not looking good for us at all.

The only thing we can hope for if this happens is a sign and trade for Chandler Parsons.

Completely different situations though. In Houston, without his or his agents knowledge he was relegated to the bench then traded. Here Masai told Lowry in the off season that he needs to smarten up otherwise he won't have a career.

He also told him right from the beginning, the team may rebuild if they arent doing well and he may get traded. As WOJ reported, Masai was upfront with him and Lowry values that along with loyalty hence why he has a good relationship with Masai.

The problem is, Lowry is one of the top "attainable" free agents this year. And his attitude this year showed a total professional maturity. So I have no doubt there would be many bidders for his services. Once the handful of max guys stay put (Big 3) or jump ship (Melo) there isn't much left to choose from.

The downside of losing him is immense, and it's worth the $2-3mm overpay to keep him from being tempted elsewhere.

The assumption you're making here...that he both turned his rep around in the league and that a lot of teams will think he fits well and would be willing to pony up for him, I disagree with.

I'd take my chances, like I said before. Make a fair offer up front, give him an option of years, and stick to it. I would not be reactive to what a team like MIA may or may not do, in fact I'd use that uncertainly to my advantage. We are uncertain but Lowry will be too, I'd be betting he doesn't want to turn down a 4/40 type of deal to test the waters considering his lack of previous big paydays. Say MIA is his only serious suitor (I have my doubts), they would only go after him if their other plans fall flat.

Well, now that Houston is so obviously eager to snag him, including Mchale visiting in person, I think we can say for certain his reputation has obviously turned around.

I don't understand how so much of our fanbase who saw him play his ass off for us every single night is reluctant to pay the guy. Other teams saw it too.

Now all we can hope for is that Masai read the lay of the land accurately and makes a pitch that Lowry can't refuse.

I seem to recall Lowry still owning a house back in Houston. Can't be sure of that though. They will definitely try to offload Lin and his backloaded contract on us if there's interest from Kyle though. Morey has already tried to offload Lin to New York and probably remembers all those Asian Toronto fans cheering Lin on to beat the hometown team at the peak of Linsanity here.

But that was years ago. When Lin's returned there has been far less excitement, right? The Linsanity fad seems to have died faster than bubble tea businesses.
