As in Harper is too good to trade for an aging star? Ya I thought about that. Might be best to run it back organically. I don't think 76ers are a player for Giannis. What would they trade besides 3rd? Embiid? would Milwaukee even want him?

you've got a point for salary match purposes. sixers at a crossroads. they could probably get decent assets for embiid if they tried to pivot. pg13 prob close to untradeable tho. harper + maxey can make a fearsome combo in about 3 years.

There is zero reason to think that Maxey and Harper could make a fearsome duo.

Noone has even seen Maxey play without embiid yet. Maxey could very well end up being about as good as lou Williams when we see him play on a team without a top 5 player who is a giant shaq-like center.

How could we survive without a starting center?

*checks notes

Raptors record since acquiring Poeltl: 70-120

(Mostly joking here. obviously I know we need a center but it’s been 3 seasons and it has paid exactly zero dividends for us)

A starting center that doesn't fit with our star forward and likely needs to be traded anyway. Really just goes back to how badly the structural problems of the Wemby draft decisions turned out. We needed star talent that year, not another role player. Now we're still looking for that star talent, but also have to fix spacing and defensive holes with an awkward lineup for both issues. We've somehow built a more complicated, ill fitting version of the Cavs liabilities.

As opposed to those times when "star talent" is the last thing we need.

But not to worry...next time we get the choice between 'star talent" and "role player"....I'm confidant the FO have learned their lesson and will opt for star talent. "Fool me once....."

Some of yall are asking for BC again and thats how I know we've lost the plot. The League clearly fixes things in favour of entertainment and the best way to win is building up talent. Masai is doing the same thing he did when he took over in 2013 and thats' building up our depth and establishing a culture of winning.

Detroit is living proof that no one can make definitive statements like this. Both the Jazz and the Wizards have young talent, cap flexibility, a top 6 pick in the draft plus a bunch of draft capital. Doesn’t mean they’ll do anything with it but their situation is not hopeless.

Who said anything about Detroit... We're talking Washington and Utah... My argument is the Raps have much more talent than either team... Are you betting money on both/either Utah or Wiz making the playoffs in the next 2 years?

Detroit had the worst record in the league last season. Now they’re the 6th seed. My point is that you can’t speak in absolutes. The Wizards and Jazz have a bunch of young talent, lots of future draft capital and flexibility. They’re rebuilding and their teams have a couple options

Cade took a leap but a big part of their success was going out and getting veteran players. They are a team lacking in high end talent despite spending year after year in the lottery.

Jazz and Wizards have not drafted well. If I was a fan of those teams I wouldn’t be optimistic about their future.

Tbh I'm not even mad at the Mavs winning the top pick, I'm more annoyed about the Spurs and Sixers also being in the top 4.

At the end of the day, I think it's Flagg and then anyone else can be that good of a player or below Flagg depending on where they get drafted and the situation. It'll be again up to the raptors to develop and make the most use of those players which were elite at anyways.

To my knowledge we were the only team to pull starters in the 4th while nursing a lead, in the hopes of now losing said games. One could make a very strong argument that this was more "unethical" than simply ruling your starters out with some BS injury. I am not a religious or spiritual guy, but sometimes the universe just pays you back in kind.

The silver lining in all this is it should dissuade teams from tanking.

I like the idea of draft odds goes by losses up until all star break and then it gets reversed - u get better odds if you win

all this tanking at the end of the year is crappy for the game. cheering for losses is such a mind fk when u think about it

since the lottery odds changed 5 years ago , its a total crap shoot since odds r so thin , used to be 25%

This lottery result will trigger a league wide strategy shift- More teams will go for the play-in and just try to win. It’s no longer worth trudging through a miserable season for nothing.

Masai's 'play-in for what?' as a tanker's rallying cry is pretty ****ing hilarious as I sit with my morning coffee. The Mavs won a play-in game AND Cooper Flagg.

On god, I felt sick after hearing the results.

- Raps pick 9
-Sixers keep pick and move top 4
-Spurs at 2
-Mavs at 1

This chit f'd my night up lol. The only bright side is Coop and Harper are out west.

We got less screwed than Utah and Washington who were the poster children of Tank Nation so I'm good with it
