45th pick GG Jackson full year younger than Gradey and dropping 23 on the Warriors. I mean Warriors can’t guard a chair right now but this age excuse for Gradey is a moot point

It's still a bit unclear why so many teams passed on Whitmore and he dropped so far (I think there were whispers of a medical report teams didn't like). I really liked some of his scoring skills and talents and was surprised he didn't go top 10. But he also really wasn't the kind of player the Raps were targeting.
The team was obviously trying to install a ball movement type of system, and was one of the main reasons they liked Darko's coaching philosophy. Whitmore has a number of strengths as a player, but one thing he doesn't do is pass...like ever.
He currently has an assist percentage of 3.2% while he's enjoying a fairly high usage rate of 26%. To put that in context, even a complete non-creator and passer like Clint Capela has an assist percentage of 5.8% on much lower usage of 16.2%. That's just really not the kind of player that a team would seek to put into a ball movement system.

They wanted to change the culture last summer, more fun and smiles so they brought in a clown. I’m sure he lightens the mood after Ls with his Donald Duck impersonation.

Coach: Tom Thibodeau
Record: 50-16
Rotation: Rose, Noah, Deng, Boozer, Hamilton, Brewer, Korver, Watson, Gibson, Asik.
Most rookies are just getting garbage time in that situation.
You missed the point, but that's alright.
No I didn't. People need to compare apples to apples. A 3 year college player should contribute right away. I expect very little from a freshman.
Well...Jimmy didn't as a 3-year college player.

Bulls had a deep roster, one of the best teams in the league. He wasnt going to be playing much and didn't.

True, but look at Kenyonte George's stats too.

The reasons for dropping were apparently 3-fold:
1) Medical, specifically knee(s) had been mentioned. Perhaps other past injuries as well (had a tibia fracture).
2) Bad workouts.
3) Poor interviews.
The fact that so many teams passed on him suggests his workouts and interviews were atrocious.

Next draft they'll be begging for some raw upolished player who can't put the ball on the floor to save his life. I hope George and Hawkins drop 30 on us every time they play us out of spite. Raptors need better regional college scouts and need to really listen to those people when it comes time to make the pick.

He plays with some arrogance on the court. Whitmore is a scorer. Can't be drafting nice guys who defer to everyone. Can't be drafting too many ball hogs either. But there is a role for maybe one. 6 players get the bulk of the minutes. Roster mix matters.

Absolutely. As annoying Patrick Beverley can be I think he has a point about needing a "dog" on your team. They don't need to be an extreme agitator like him or Marcus Smart but they need some toughness and intensity like we had in Lowry or even Serge (What did Pat Bev say? Be scared of in a dark alley? lol). That should be a characteristic we look for in players as we build the roster around Barnes.

"You guys just look more delusional"
I don't think it is that. We are realists. We have Gradey and we don't have George or Hawkins.
There is no point in hoping for spiteful performances from players who are probably happy where they are. Who cares how George or Hawkins would have performed with the Raptors? They are not here.
So one either has patience with Gradey, or one can sit in the corner brooding about the fact we didn't draft someone else.
No one on this board has the power to change front office decisions or affect FO personnel changes.
Sometimes I get the feeling some people show up here just to make themselves feel superior to others.

Shows how bitter some of these fans are, its almost funny.
Apparently the Raptors front office is delusional and can't properly use the eye test

I won't blindly support every decision the front office makes just because I want to cheer for the hometeam. Drafting and projecting player outputs can be difficult. But the Raptors went out of their way to draft Gradey Dick. If you think I'm wrong in saying that they went out of their way, let me remind you that aside from the Raptors not even scheduling him for an individual workout, there was an established consensus of several other players who were projected to be drafted higher than him on the board, most notably Keyonte George & Jordan Hawkins. You can call it 'dealing with reality' (living with Gradey) all you want, but the truth is that if the right pick was made, you wouldn't need to be playing Dennis Schroeder almost 30min a night and signing Jalen McDaniels to give you absolutely nothing off the bench.

There's a difference between blindly supporting every decision the FO makes and cheering for opposing players to light us up every time they face us.

Brother, I love the Raptors but I'm disappointed with this draft selection. Either of those guys would have ate in Toronto. I know you remember Rafael Araujo. Say what you want about him, but at least he showed up and had his moments. In Gradey Dick, you have a guy who can't even show up to have a moment. If he's getting torched in games, just imagine how bad it is in practice for him not to get minutes over the likes of Garrett Temple and Jalen McDaniels. The thought of that is painful, especially since George & Hawkins would be top 5 picks if you did a re-draft right now (premature, but you know what I mean). It would have been a big value play for a late lottery team like us if we drafted either of those guys, but here we are kicking the same can down the road.
