In other news the McDonald's All American roster will be unveiled tonight. It is said to have 3 Canadians in it (Kabongo, Birch and Wiltjer) which would be a great turnout for Canada. Lets wait for the official lineups before we get too excited though.
That would be awesome, although isn't Wiltjer American-raised?

Considering when the UT guys were selected last year it was a pretty big deal, this is huge.

Re: HS thread-(3 Canadians named McDonalds All Americans)
Here is our article and some more insight on the players:
http://www.flagrantfouls.com/2011/02/3- ... ican-game/
"It's been just more than 10 months since Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph made Canadian history and put youth basketball in our country on the biggest stage. The two Findlay College Prep superstars were the 4th and 5th Canadians to ever be selected to play in the McDonald's All-American game."
Amazing line about how Tristan and Cory were only the 4th and 5th players selected and we are adding 3 more this year.

Congrats to all three! I know this is off-topic but it is a travesty that Plumlee made the game.
Hopefully Bennett is #9 next year!
Bird - Will you guys be doing a feature on Birch at all? Apparently he was dominated by Drummond in a recent tourney and I would like to hear how he is progressing this year.

I'm sure we will but that's up to Nolan. Are you talking about the NPSI last weekend? We were supposed to go but unfortunately weather cancelled out flight.

Big matchups
Andre Drummond vs. Khem Birch
The two big-time centers played to a draw last spring when they last squared off as the top-two players in the Class of 2012. With Birch now reclassified to 2011 and signed with Pitt, all that was at stake was bragging rights, but Drummond, from St. Thomas More, nonetheless came away as the clear winner. He established his jump hook as a weapon on the game's very first possession and continued to go to it until Birch took away his left shoulder at which point he showed a quick spin to the baseline. Drummond was also more of a defensive presence inside the paint blocking shots, rebounding and utilizing his size and mobility to contain the pick-and-roll. For Birch, the lone bright spot on the day might have been the continued development of his midrange skill set as he faced up for short jumpers from the mid-post and even made shots from the short corner off pick-and-pop action.
Andre Drummond vs. Nerlens Noel
Two days after winning his duel with Birch, Drummond returned to take on the top ranked center in the Class of 2013. While both players were even in the scoring category, Noel's impact was far greater as he dominated both backboards and controlled the game defensively, blocking three shots, changing countless others, and demonstrating unrivaled instincts on that end of the floor. Drummond made his customary three or four big-time plays but lacked consistency and focus, never effectively utilizing his size and strength advantage inside the paint. As for Noel's offense, while the vast majority of his points still come by bouncy finishes at the rim, his high-post game continues to expand with soft touch on his short jumpers and a series of impressive high-low passes.

Re: HS thread-Kabongo,Wiltjer,Khem are McDonald's All Americans
Yea like I said we missed the tourney. I saw Drummond in West Virginia though, he's a beast. Just to put how great the McDonald's All American selection is in perspective, here is a great article by Dave Telep of ESPN:
-There have been 18 McDonald's All-Americans who went on to be named NBA rookie of the year. The least impressive guy on this list is Mike Miller of the Miami Heat.
-There have been 14 NBA MVP trophies awarded to McDonald's alums.
- Every year since 1979, except for one, there's been at least one McDonald's All-American on the national champion's roster.

Re: HS thread-Kabongo,Wiltjer,Khem are McDonald's All Americans
His AAU coach Terence Phillips told ScoutsFocus' Joe Davis that the teen is also hoping to attempt a between-the-legs slam if he gets another wide-open, uncontested fast break later this season.
Great coaching.
Is that the same high school that Olympic ashaolu went to in the states?
And regarding birch, I've only seem him play a half dozen times or so, but he seems alot like a tyrus Thomas type plgayer. More tall, wiry athlete than basketball player at the moment. But im pretty sure he only picked up the sport recently, and the promise is certainly there, so hopefully he can really grow into a player.

Yea..... if this kid keeps growing he could turn out to be the best big man to ever come out of Canada. 14 years old - 6'2'' - with this athleticism and ability... keep an eye on him.

American coaches wouldn't be putting these Canadian kids in the game if they didn't deserve it. It's pretty impressive that a country with 30 million people has three players in the national ASG of the best basketball playing country in the world with a population of over 300 million.

"After travelling to the United States for the Prime Time Shootout and MAIT last month, it didn't take long to notice that the best players on the floor at both events were from Ontario. While we used to hide out in the weeds as an unknown basketball hotbed, we're no longer under the radar when discussions turn to where to find North America's best basketball talent. "
