so the league seems to have pushed to add $1 to the existing tax penalty structure, and it appears to go up in $5 million increments based on what Aldridge said when he was practicing on the mic

Overlooked-& most random-part of Checketts interview: he sent "complimentary gravy bowls from a KFC in Manhattan" into negotiating room.

here he is with an update...

EDIT: here's the video, nothing really new
http://www.nba.com/video/channels/nba_t ... pdate.nba/

- two sides seem to have agreed to 50/50 split, contingent on the way system issues are handled
-most notable issues remaining are ability for tax teams to use the MLE, and execute s&t's
-made progress on the 'repeater tax' (something about a cliff for teams that repeatedly dip into the tax)
-progress has been incremental

I remember the days when we drafted Stoudamire, T-Mac, Carter & Bosh.

Still waiting for that championship contention.

I remember when Cleveland drafted home grown boy Lebron James, signed Shaq, traded for Antawn Jamison. Where is Cleveland now?

"They just have to draft well".......my azz.....it's not that simple.

Well they had Lebron for 7 years. That is half of career. They made the finals once, had the best record in the league two years running and who was the best player they put Lebron with? If they put right talent beside him, maybe they would have won, and Lebron wouldn't have jetted to win someone else. Toronto had Bosh for 7 years and what kinda of team did they build around him? Only made the playoffs twice.

What you are proposing is teams draft players and keep them forever. Essentially you are advocating for getting rid of Free Agency.

What does that mean? Cleveland were one of the top teams in the league for 5 years. They made it to the finals, and had the beat record in the league for two years.

Toronto lost it's star players because of management, drafting and being in Canada. Tracey left to get out of vince s shadow. Bosh left to join the two best players in the league. What did any of that have to do with the cap? We overspent with grunwald and bc.

You saw the truehoop article right? That actually uses stats instead of just two teams?

Wasn't T-Mac an RFA? Bad management to let him go.

Well, my point is, Cleveland did do well in the draft (regardless if they were lucky or not) & they were a contending team. Now they are back to obscurity.

It would have been nice if they got a Tim Duncan or Dirk Nowitski type commitment from their star player.

As for Toronto. They did draft well....they drafted EXTREMELY well early on. Where did that get them?

I'm not buying the "small market teams just have to draft well to win" (insuating that they are doing poorly because they suck at drafting).

The issue is much more complicated that that.
