Changing the colour scheme next season

I don't have a problem with us keeping red, but I am just not a fan of the shade of red they have used. I'd like us to move towards a crimson, or a red with more brown in it to mute the overall effect. Right now we have a bright red, which is hard on the eyes and has negative connections with being associated with a stop sign. It is almost a relief to watch our team play in purple than to have to watch us in those hideous red jerseys.

I like the idea of brown because it is so different and if done right, I think it would be a great way to redefine the Raptors. I have always loved the Padres brown and yellow jerseys, which could easily be using more of a golden hue and offset with red.




It would fit into a retro style and feel more working class, which just fits Toronto. Plus, no one has the colour scheme in the NBA, which helps to set us apart, which is important in the whole "we the north" marketing strategy.

Brown wouldn't look good on people with a dark skin tone. There's a reason why no one has attempted a predominantly brown color scheme in the NBA.

I agree, I am surprised no one has a brown colour tone in their jersey scheme. For the Raptors I would say no, but for Cleveland maybe or a team like the Pelicans maybe lol

Black and gold as in...black and yellow? Or actually black and gold like the old Washington jersey?

My first preference would be to stay with the existing color scheme, but with a possible re-design.

My second preference - if a color change is going to happen - would be to the black and gold.

I don't want a return to purple for anything other than alternate jerseys, and I don't want a switch to blue and white in a cave-in to the "matching colors" mindset. I get the idea and it works well for say, Pittsburgh, but I see no great need for us to try to follow suit. None of the major markets do this and truth be told, it's just not a color scheme I want to claim for ourselves since the primary reason for it is the Leafs. I like the differentiation.

Black and gold, much like purple and red, would be a unique color scheme in the NBA. It's also far easier to create marketable merchandise that people will buy and wear, than purple. The people wanting it have to be new fans who weren't part of the original purple period that made it tough to get people to wear jackets, hats, sweaters, etc...

Let me ask people a few things...

-For those who like purple, do you regularly wear purple out and about? I myself never wear purple (along with most of the people I see on the street)... I don't have any shoes, belts, pants, or jackets... Personally I would like to know that I can wear my favourite teams gear when I am in public without looking like someone can't dress themselves and match...

-For those that like the Dino throwback... We're you alive or we're you a fan of the Raps when we first worn them? That would help explain it... They are horribly ugly... Great if you are trying to market to a 10 year old but c'mon how anybody can like Barney is beyond me..

-People that think our current jersey's are plain, boring, and don't like the Red... How interesting really is the Bull's jersey, or The Celtics, or how about the Knicks? Haven't changed their colour or there jersey in years & if they have altered it, it's barely noticeable...

-Those that want a change because the current jersey reminds us of losing and it is time to turn the page... Shouldn't the Leafs be changing their colours and uniforms then? & by the way we had more losing seasons in Purple then we did Red...


Stop treating my favourite team like a damn cell phone or an ex-girlfriend you can just get rid of cause you want an upgrade... Funny thing with supposed upgrades... I don't want purple back. Especially the originals. Hated them them & still dislike them. They are cool as an alternate for nostalgic reasons. That's it. I was super happy when we shed the "Barney" label.

Don't forget that it was Oak & Willis that pushed that change. As grown azz men, they did jot want to wear those jerseys.

I like black and gold but in this regard I do have a couple issues with it.

#1: Drake... Don't get me wrong I like him and respect what he is doing for the organization and the city itself but I just don't want to feel like we are following a trend or furthering his brand utilizing our basketball team. The Raptors will be here long after Drake's relevance.

#2: When I think Raptors in the dinosaur context I just don't see black/gold. I also think that changing the colour scheme 3 times in 20 years under the same name shows either we have no grasp on who we are or are just greedy pigs that would rather increase merchandise sales than develop a tradition. With that being said if they knew they wanted to go to black/gold the should have just changed the name, or should at least think of redefining "Raptor" as "jet fighter" or "bird of prey" versions rather then the dinosaur.

I'm really not feeling the black and gold, it doesn't fit with the Raptors monicker, when you think of the Raptors, I think of Barney, he has to be red or purple not gold, so no, I really don't like the gold colour.

I for one don't see the need for a major jersey change .. just a few small changes:

1. Make the black jersey our official AWAY jersey and make the red jersey an alternate
2. Keep using the purple throwbacks at select games
3. Bring back the Purple raptor jersey as an alternate we use through the season

i like this one if we went with a gold primary home jersey like the lakers and black as our away with white as our sunday jersey…. i don't mind gold if its a dull gold but shiny gold is just fugly

I think it will be big mistake if we don't go this route next year, and change our colors to black and gold:



When i think about Raptors i think about purple. When they changed the colors to red it was still acceptable because we already had red color in our scheme. But black and gold? I don't really know.

This is how i think we should modernize our original uniform, and try to make them timeless.

Pathetic.... So we are going to be one of those teams that changes their uniforms every 5 years? That worked out great for the Blue Jays. Only to go back to the orginals that actually look good. The current jerseys are fine, in whatever color they are, simple, modern,classic. You dont see the lakers, chicago, celtics , knicks doing drastics changes.

I think this message board is the only place that you'll find people who want to keep things the same.

The rest of the public wants purple and red or black and gold.

They hire marketing gurus to handle this, not internet fans.

I don't care what the colour is as long as it stands out and fits our "outsider" image
