The #2 playmaker? No, he was not even close lol.

By playmaker I mean the ability to create shots for teammates.

I love JV, but he’s not a gifted playmaker at all

You are correct he was no playmaker, meant to say our #2 most valuable for playoffs.
Val was also our toughest/gritiest player during playoffs - you knew he will show up every night (unlike the other softies).

True, he was one of the few players who has actually upped his game in the playoffs.

Gonna miss the big fella but I’m excited about adding Gasol’s playmaking and shooting.

I think the trade makes the Raptors better, but it remains to be seen how much. I'm cautiously optimistic, and can see why some people are even worried.

Maybe this stat will help you feel a lil' better.

He will help our offense tremendously, not to mention his elite defense as well.

As much as I liked Val, I also always been a fan of Marc Gasol, I hope it is the extra push we needed to get us to finals!

I am not happy with it. I thought it was too much to give up for a 34 year old declining player........and I have always been a big Gasol fan. The current state of the roster & the loss of depth makes it even more confusing.

I am trying to keep an open mind though. Always do.

This is essentially why Nurse wanted Gasol on the roster. I get it.

Still hurts to lose JV for a 34 year old though. Right?

Now Gasol needs some shooters to pass to.

That's all we can do i guess, man I am going to miss both JV and Delon so much from a fan affiliation standpoint and basketball standpoint. Would have been so sweet to win with the home grown guys than hire declining hired guns.

JV is on the buyout market in the form of Enes Kanter.

Gotta be hard for a guy like JV who had given so much over the years. Battled & worked his azz off to try to get this franchise over the hump. He's finally gets to be on a roster that has a good chance to make it to the NBA final after 7 years of putting work in & he gets shipped to a bottom dweller.

If Derozan thinks they did him dirty.........look at JV's situation now & be thankful.

Wtf else do you guy's want?

YOU guy's wanted another big move and a big name. I'm really really curious as to what you would do... other than blow up our roster.

HIs D is going to have to be exceptional, because I feel JV is a better offensive player at this point and has been improving yearly

We have a very thin squad now so I expect there to be more pickups in the next month on the buyout market, so it will be easier to evaluate in a few weeks.

This is a "I give up on this team" type of move from Masai. You throw some **** against the wall and hope it sticks, and if it doesn't work, everyone just walks away and you start from scratch. This team is being blown up around trade deadline next season.

At this stage in their careers, JV is the best asset in this trade.

Big names that are still young! For christ's sake we are treating Gasol like he;s 28 instead of the 34 year old has been he is. I would rather stand pat than doing this name sake trade cuz he feels under pressure from media and idiotic fans who panic and wants moves done at any cost.

I would have gone after players still 28 and younger who ADDRESS our weaknesses like a 25 year old Beal! If not than do nothing, instead of going after old ass players.

Just Passing By wrote:I am just extremely sad. I've been talking about this type of trade for a while, and even a while ago I thought it would be a bad idea - now when Gasol is even older, I think it's even more terrible. I do understand that we are trying to go all in, but I simply don't think Gasol is that guy. I've been watching him since he cracked the Spain's main team, so for like 15 years or so, and always thought that he is extremely overrated and his so called defensive prowess was mainly due to amazing defensive guards he had in Memphis.

I believe we gave up way, way, way too much for someone like Gasol.

Anyway, I hope that Gasol proves me wrong and is a beast for us, but until that happens I will maintain my opinion that it was a terrible trade.

Farewell JV, you will always be our giant. Stay strong in Memphis!

And best of luck to us, because we will need it.

Exactly my take. Such an underwhelming trade. The only thing gasol really does better than jv is pass and defend but itd arguable how good his defense will be now that he's older and slower. He can shoot 3s but not elite and is overall a leszefficient shooter. Also his passing is great isf we HD guys that could shoot but we consistently brick shots.

Add to that that jv was a big part of past playoff runs and was arguably our most important player Wh en demar and Kyle to a lesser extent were **** t he bed and Idk. Again if we gutted the team for a beast id hvve no problem with it but gasol is washed.
