So Masai’s grand plan was to trade OG for a stopgap and then sign that “stop gap” for 5 years?
If this is the case he deserved to be fired, regardless of his salary.
They waited too long with OG.
The Siakam deal was a stop gap too. The return was significantly different then what they got the day of the trade. They pretty much took it and turned it into BI and more.
They are trying to do the same with IQ/RJ and upgrade. So far, no luck
If their plan was to do that with IQ and Barrett that is just a terrible plan.
It’s far easier to trade 1sts and expiring salary (ie the returns in the Siakam trade) than it is to trade Barrett (who was considered a bad contract at the time) and IQ (who we overpaid for 5 years). Signing a guy to a long term questionable contract (IQ) to try and flip him is one of the worst team building strategies I’ve ever heard of.
That was their plan lol. If IQ popped, they keep him. If not, they look to move to upgrade. They clearly didn't want to move OG to Memphis for 3 firsts. I guess they wanted players in return that they could trade later on. That's always been Masai's thought process rightly or wrongly.
