Chad doesn't know, he's had a different person going to us in every mock. Don't worry.

Sure, but the difference is that we have a much better understanding of what kind of improvements Valanciunas made because people have actually seen him play. Is it possible that Kanter made the same improvement defensively? Yeah, but that he didn't is just as likely considering there were reports of him getting dominated by random college bigs at the combine. And speaking of Valanciunas' D, his biggest problem has always been his lack of strength - something that's easier to fix. The problem I have with Kanter's D (from 2 years ago at least) is that he's simply not even trying. And the effort-level doesn't change easily as we have learned from Bargs. Also there are talks of him having played great D in U18 competition and the Hoop Summit, but Kanter didn't look impressive in the video Locke posted. Even at the Hoop Summit, I think he was matched up with Sullinger who had a very good game offensively. If he didn't guard Sullinger, he basically didn't have to guard anyone of note.
If we can't over-analyze these lowlights, we can't be doing the same with his highlights. Either both sides of his game should be questioned or his defense should be criticized while his offense is complimented. Not saying he's going to be terrible, but the risk factor is huge
That’s the thing we’ve seen improvements of valanciunas and as I’ve said we can’t be judging based on the clips DX has posted because they were 2 years old Draftexpress should’ve at least post a full game video so we can see the situation of the play, maybe Kanter was trying to avoid contact in order to stay in the game? Whoknows.. I don’t think anyone has been saying that he’ll be a monster at the defensive end but I don’t think he’ll be the liability as bad Bargs level as some have painted him to be.. the difference I see in Bargs and Kanter is the fact that it seems like wants to learn and improve, he’s learned from the best in Tim grover so it’s not like he doesn’t want to get better. I just wouldn’t judge him based on a compiled highlight of his lowlights on D just on 2 games. The sample rate is too small.
I just wouldn't label him as bus, but if I were the Raptors I wouldn't even pick him as my first choice out of the bigs.. he's not my first choice because our need at center is a player who has some length, who can rebound, defend and can protect the paint. A type of player we've been sorely lackiing at the center position for a Looooong time., this is why I wouldn't mind a gamble on Valenciunas or even Biyombo..I don't mind Kanter as well because it seems like he's a great post player in the mould of Luis Scola which is nothing to sneeze about in this lacking draft. Basically my preference is a big.

don't worry?
Personally, I like Vesely. Just not enough to take him over Wright or Valanciunas. I'm also open minded about Leonard, although he's a bit undersized for the 3.
In this draft, you had better be open minded...

Im guessing more like:
Bayless/Derozan/Johnson/Davis/Kanter...which isn't too bad.

don't worry? If he publishes five version of his mock, each with a different pick for us, he's going to be right at least once.

Kind of obvious BC is either giving no info to Chad Ford or is stringing him alone with like 8 names.
Biyombo is dropping hard, damn

maybe he's the guy we want with an additional pick. The Raps and Jazz are the only teams that sent their GMs to go see him in Vitoria (the other teams were the Pistons/Bobcats/Warriors). I would love somehow walking away from this draft with both Knight/Biyombo.
Biyombo/?
Ed/Amir
J.Johnson
DeMar/Barbosa
Knight/Bayless

That lineup has no offence to it. I would think Andrea would start out with Ed, and then if Biyombo shows he's worthy of starting, Bargnani will either move into the 6th man role, or we'll have trade assets on our hands.

Yeah, I think BC may be aiming for Biyombo...I just don't see BC looking at a player like Thompson and adding another power forward to our lineup.

Unless the Raptors are getting him in the second round, Biyombo better not be part of their draft plans.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread Part 9
I have never seen Vesely play. But I will say this. I just finished reading his DraftExpress profile, and if BC takes him with the 5th pick with the intention of starting him at SF (against the likes of LeBron, Pierce, Carmelo, Iguodala, etc.), then BC has learned NOTHING from the Bargnani debacle.
Vesely is a stretch 4 mismatch type player who (like Bargnani) is luxury on a team that has the basics covered and does not need to depend on such mismatches. The Raptors have NOT covered their basics (true leader at PG; rebounding/shot blocking C; scoring SF) so they do NOT need yet another stretch 4.

If we're moving towards getting an additional pick to select Biyombo it better be top ten pick AND useful roster spot for Bargnani.

Well I was going under the assumption that Bargs is the main player being sent out to acquire the additional pick in the first place. We'd get a contract(s) back and depending on how that shakes out we'd have some capspace to go after an FA with (If we have a lot, I say go after DeAndre and have a VERY solid defensive frontcourt of Ed/Amir/DeAndre/Biyombo... if we don't have as much capspace, perhaps we consider targeting T.Young/W.Chandler/Green). Really if we manage to get a frontcourt like that with DeMar/Bayless/Knight/Barbosa in our backcourt, I think we could get by scoring-wise next season... and then really set ourselves up well to bring in Gilchrist/Miller/Barnes/P.Jones with a lotto pick in the next draft, and have (imo) a great young core that we can compete with.
