2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Wouldn't be the first time someone could hit a middie but struggled from further out.

A guy like Tatum is a 38% mid range guy, and 37% from 3.

Tatum's also an 84% FT shooter on his career and a 40.7% shooter from the corners. He's been demonstrably superior as a shooter his entire career.

I definitely think Scotties 3pt % is partially down due to shot selection. I think just improving that he is probably more of a 32-33% guy. Slight improvement and hopefully we can get to a 35% type thing.

Yeah. Beat him with a stick every time he shoots above the break, only permit him to shoot from the corners, and he'll shoot 36%. Leave the ATB 3s to everyone else who has more offensive skill.

Also, because I love to bring this up, career "mid range maestro" Derozan only shot 42% from 10-16ft as a Raptor and 38% from the long 2. Crazy that Scottie is almost at that level just on a pure % base

Right, but setting aside his ability to draw fouls compared to Scottie, DeMar has shot 47.7% from 10-16 feet from his last season as a Raptor onward, and 43.6% from 16-23 feet, and that represents over 50% of his shooting volume. That volume component is a big deal, but also the years and years and years of him doing it at a dramatically higher level also matter. Using his career numbers doesn't make sense, because he demonstrably developed over time to a degree which is atypical.

I am not trying to "Scottie can be Tatum" I am simply pointing out how typically guys dont shoot 38% on long 2's and then 10% worse on 3's. Like Scottie is a career 38.2% shooter from 16ft-3pt line. Wanna know the 3 point %'s for guys in the 37-39% range last year?
Spoiler:
Name 16-3pt 3PT
LeBron James 39.4% 37.6%
Alex Sarr 39.3% 30.8%
Brook Lopez 39.1% 37.3%
Kenrich Williams 38.9% 38.6%
Dalton Knecht 38.9% 37.6%
Jett Howard 38.9% 29.6%
Jalen Williams 38.8% 36.5%
Donovan Mitchell 38.8% 36.8%
Zach LaVine 38.6% 44.6%
A.J. Green 38.5% 42.7%
Brice Sensabaugh 38.5% 42.2%
Tyus Jones 38.5% 41.4%
Jrue Holiday 38.5% 35.3%
Nick Smith Jr. 38.2% 34.0%
Fred VanVleet 38.2% 34.5%
Scoot Henderson 38.1% 35.4%
Austin Reaves 37.9% 37.7%
Tyrese Martin 37.5% 35.1%
Jalen Wilson 37.5% 33.7%
Keon Johnson 37.5% 31.4%
Ryan Dunn 37.5% 31.1%
Anthony Edwards 37.2% 39.5%
Jalen Green 37.1% 35.4%
Alperen Şengün 36.8% 23.3%
Gary Trent Jr. 36.5% 41.6%

The average is 36.1% on this list. Is this saying he is bound to be a better shooter? No... but it also would suggest that he would be an outlier in terms of being a guy to shoot high 30s from long 2 and be low 30s in 3pt%. Even if he does not relegate to the corners, if he was a little smarter on his shots (and a guy like Ingram taking some pressure would help), I don't think its crazy if he got back into the mid 30s

Sure, it's possible, even likely, that Scottie will be better than the 28-30% he's shot in 3 of his first 4 seasons. I just don't care. He isn't worth the effort funneling those shots to him. We consign him to the corner and explore other avenues with him at lower volume. We don't have the need to push the issue with him as a scorer, is my main point.

Re: Demar sure, but he didnt do that until what? Year 9 on? Scottie is on year 5.

Right, and there's a 0% chance I want to wait on Scottie to unscrew himself as a scoring threat until that point in his career.

Huh...TMZ reporting that Diddy's publicist said he hooked up Cassie with Michael B Jordan.

And Diddy's Defense "also asked about an NBA player referred to only as Brandon."

I’m sure a lot is psychological too. But yeah, ankle is one of the worst built parts of the human body that’s just not easily recoverable for playing sports. I’m expecting a lot of rest games and probably 50-60 games a year as realistic target.

I can't imagine we'd have just thrown 120mil at a guy and expecting 50-60 games, that would just be a horrible signing/trade. They've gotta be expecting like 70 games.

I don’t even think Scottie plays 70 games lol.

65 is the hope.

Agreed, but for stars, not players like BI. The Embiids/GIannis/Lukas of the world you can swallow the missing games, but for players of BIs calibre, you need those extra games.

118 players who qualified played 70 games.

65 or 70 games is hardly worth discussing tho lol it is such an immaterial difference

At this point, I'd be happy with 65 games from all our top guys. The key is make sure they aren't out all at the same time.

For sure it's better than the alternative, but man for such a major addition to the team, it's a low bar.

Of the 562 NBA players last year only 169 played 65 games.

Not really that low of a bar. But dont let facts get in the way of a good complaint.

Plus they might purposely sit him out some b2b games early on.
