Hes not really ranked much of anywhere ...if we really wanted him could prolly get him in the 2nd round...Much better prospects at 24,25thish

He should be ranked in the first round. A lock down defender with elite rebounding and above average vision isn't even a 2nd round pick? His only knock is really his ball-handling which can improve over time as we've seen with DeMar.

Per40 he matches up very well with Rajon Rondo when he was a freshman at UK. Rondo was a better passer, but Melton has a better jump shot (something that plagued Rondo in his career).

He also blocks shots which Rondo never did. I'd be thrilled if we grabbed him as a 2nd rounder or just signed him as a free agent like we did with Van Fleet. I think there's a saturation of point guards available(again Van Fleet is an example) which is why this kid is flying under the radar. There are so many players available at the position that teams aren't even interested in drafting them unless they're top 10 draft talents.
What's interesting in this case is he's raw, but already very effective on the defensive end. Those highlights of him skying for rebounds are very unusual for a point guard. Not only does he have the length and athleticism to go up and get them, but his motor looks excellent. If his work ethic for practice is anywhere near his apparent intensity to compete then he's a steal. Could be a starter, or even a star when he matures which is ludicrous for a guy who could be had with our late 2nd round pick!
As for the ball handling, you mention DeMar, but there is an example of a point guard who had very questionable handles coming into the league who turned out alright: Steph curry. His own college coach recently stated that he was very mediocre as a ball handler when he arrived as a freshman, but he improved every year in college and in the pros. Today Curry is a very crafty ball-handler and can break down just about any defender. I'm pretty sure an 18 year old with a good work ethic can develop acceptable handles.
For a year where we only have picks in the tail end of the draft, I'm pretty excited!

I finally had some time to watch a little more of Bridges. I take back the VC lite comparisons. Apart from a couple powerful dunks he's definitely more comparable to other undersized power forwards. He actually runs a little like Barkley or Charles Oakley. Biggest question becomes whether he can develop a post game or not? Right now he's more of a catch and shoot 3 point shooter and he gets some buckets on drives as well.

Anyone else kind of hoping for the Raptors to keep sliding and get a late playoff seed just to grab a higher pick?

Sort of.

As a fan I always want them to win games, but I don't have that same desperation I had earlier this season. It's pretty obvious that we're still an ECF at best, and would likely get swept or beaten in 5 games against the Cavs.

I want them to win, but I think last year sort of satisfied my need to see the team finally not be embarrassed in the playoffs. Now I'm relaxed and want to see us as a late seed take on Chicago in the 1st round. If we win it would be great since they own us and if we lose we still have a bit higher a pick and it's a little easier to justify some radical moves.

If Masai doesn't do anything I rather us be 8th seed and face the Cavs and try knock them out our self since we already know we're 1st round exit anyways; that way we get a higher pick in the draft.

I'm good with that. The lowest I could see us falling to though, if things go as they have, is 6th or maybe 7th seed. Teams with a shot to pass us are Atlanta and Washington. Indiana has an outside shot I suppose, but that's as far as I could see the Raps ever dropping.

Take him in the first round Geez, he took down UCLA and Ball (7 to's) and outplayed Fultz (4 to's).

vs Ball - 13 pts, 9 rebs, 5 asts (0 to), 4 stls, 1 blk
vs Fultz - 16 pts, 7 rebs, 6 asts (1 to), 6 stls, 2 blks

WOW! 905 for a full season to work on his shot then unleash him! :D

He gets another shot at UCLA, Arizona and Washington!

Wouldn't mind seeing us slip a little more, we need the higher draft pick.

lol. Think we'd have to take him with one of the 1st round picks. DX actually has him going in the late 1st round of the 2018 draft. If he's outplaying the top 2 prospects in the draft, that's a very good sign. He could be ready sooner than later to contribute some NBA minutes, though I'd be in no hurry given how young he is.
Trade Cojo and let Delon take over as backup point guard for the 2017-2018 season. Let this beast have a year in D League and play the odd blow out minutes for Toronto.

Magic currently have the 4th pick. There's probably nothing we could offer them that would cause them to trade that pick.

Snap, it was wishful thinking didn't notice they crack the top 5 pick; they were just 9th last week when I last checked.

The Kings still have a top 10 pick(currently 7th) and are probably the best bet to do something dumb. Other trade partners could be New York(11th), Milwaukee(12th), Portland(15th).

This kid Melton is going to be a player. He went head to head with the #1 guy and won. He basically has elite defense but needs improvement on offense, and I'd take a guy like that all day. He has the foundation to develop an offensive game. He almost has that Jimmy Butler vibe about him where he's already a lock down defender, but people aren't sure if he'll be able to develop an offense so he's ranked a bit lower. But, if he develops offensively he's a star. This is the type of kid that you really don't want a team like the Spurs to get their hands on. They won't just make him a nice player like Johnathan Simmons or Danny Green, they'll turn him into a star like Kawhi Leonard.
