I'm seeing a lot of discourse about Barnes lack of touches and set plays.
There's multiple ways to develop a player. Barnes is a rookie that has a very unique playstyle to this team. Our team is learning to integrate him to the system while making up for their own offensive limitations. Additionally, Barnes is not a true scorer just yet.
None of this should be discouraging. Be encouraged that despite of everything, Barnes is
still killing it. Garbage buckets, good looks, a 3 every now and then. But more importantly he buys into this defense and is learning very, very, very fast. Compare his defense to Tatum in the preseason, versus regular season matchup 1 to tomorrow. We've never seen a rookie in a Raptors uniform do what he's doing on defense while still being effective on offense.
The touches will come in time. We lost Lowry and had to completely readjust the offensive hierarchy with Pascal gone (now returning).
So do we need to run plays for Barnes right now to develop him? No, if the talent is there you won't need a single play run for you.
But don't take it from me, take it from the best coach in the NBA regarding his young finals MVP:
