Calling it right now, Spurs draft Dwight Powell with the last pick in the 1st round

No way Powell gets picked that high. He has a lot more hole in his games then you think.

My second round sleeper pick at 36 is Eric Moreland. I like him better than Patric Young and Bachinsky. He goes only 225, but he has outstanding size 7,3 wingspan and gigantic hands (bigger than Noah V's). I think he has great role player potential and see a Marcus Camby type style with him. He'd be a great fit with JV since he can hit a jumpshot and can help and recover quite quickly.

He has been matching up with Clint Capela in workouts who is rated higher in most mocks, so I am curious if he could be a second round pick worthy.

He played for Oregon State so he is pretty much unknown, but he has size and some decent skills averaging about a double-double and a couple blocks. He isn't rated high because his numbers took a dip likely due to a lengthy team suspension he received (second infraction due to team violation cost him 14 games). I think it probably through him off his game a bit. He still put up good numbers, but he did regress a bit.

If we are looking for a rim protector who can board and pick and pop, he seems like the guy to look at in the second round. His suspension might even mean he's available at the end of the second, too.

Not certain why so many want Patric Young and DeAndre Daniels.

Young is a poor rebounder, average defensively and has no offensive game.

Daniels has a smooth shot but does not attack the rim, has poor handles and isn't great defensively either.

Surely we can do better than this in this deep second round.

But I do like Bachynski though. Could be worth a flier in the late first round.

I could see it. My bets for the Spurs pick is either Powell or Bogdanovic.

Dwight Powell has really impressed me
- Incredible athlete
- Consistent Mid range jumper
- Great size at 6'11"
- Very quick laterally.

I watched some of his games at Stanford and he seems like he could become a decent stretch 4 in this league. He would be a great player coming off the bench. DX has him at 50 right now.

It also doesn't hurt he's from Toronto 8-)

I know it's just a workout, but the way the ball goes through the hoop for him is so pure - great arc, and more often than not it's nothing but net. Really impressive indeed.

Really impressive indeed, yes.
I like Powell, and I think he is a quick learner.

I like him. Pick him at 37 if Inglis is not there, or is that not an ideal pick?

I think #37 would be good, but it depends on our #20.
If we draft a PG at #20, having a scoring big may help spread the floor for him.

You have just quoted a perfect draft right there.... if only the world worked that way. Those are all Spur's types of picks

Honestly worst case scenario, even the plan D draft would still look pretty good.

My Top 4 Players (no order) who have a good chance to fall to each slot (some, like Inglis, have a really unknown stock and could easily go first round)

#20: Payne, Adams, GR3, Capela
#37: Inglis, Porzingis, Young, Powell
#59: Bacynski, Huestis, Ejim, McAdoo

Any combination of those 4 would be a great draft IMO. Plethora of positions and roles to pick from will all our picks. Im too excited.

Inglis and Powell yes, payton no. Spurs don't draft pgs that can't shoot, ever. Neither should we for that matter.

I'm watching a Michigan vs. Michigan St. game from this season on the Big Ten Network
channel 546 on Rogers...

And this Gary Harris kid sucks I have no idea why the scouts and draft pundits have him
rated so high.

Payton's game resembles some what to Shaun Livingstone. He's good for slashing and kicking the ball out but he's no knock down shooter. Gaurds would back away and dare him to shoot. It would probably take a year or 2 before he became a consistent knock down shooter if ever at all. His bread and butter will always be on the defensive side.

He does have great shooting mechanics and should be able to become a better shooter in the future imo.

anyone else feel like the more you watch this kid the more you want him? I really do think he would work well with Vasquez in the 2nd unit. Casey loves to have 2 ball handlers and Payton is big enough and good enough defensively that he can guard some 2's. I would have Payton guard the better offensive player between the 1 and the 2 and have Vasquez guard the other. Vasquez matches up well with SGs because of his size (6'6).

PG: Lowry (33) / Payton (15)

SG: Derozan (24) / Vasquez (24)

SF: Ross (27) / Derozan (10) / Inglis (11)

PF: Amir (23) / Patterson (25)

C: Val (28) / Amir (5) / C (15)

i really think that above lineup works.

I'm really hoping a SF falls to us. Someone like Lavine would be awesome.

I don't think Powell will be there at the 59th pick, he might even be gone by the 37. If there's one kid i'd pick with the 59th is that center from Baylor i believe, that only has 1 eye. I know it's a huge gamble, but his upside is great. If it wasn't for the eye thing, i think he would of been a lottery pick.
