https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/autism-spectrum-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20352928

Causes

Autism spectrum disorder has no single known cause. Given the complexity of the disorder, and the fact that symptoms and severity vary, there are probably many causes. Both genetics and environment may play a role.

Genetics. Several different genes appear to be involved in autism spectrum disorder. For some children, autism spectrum disorder can be associated with a genetic disorder, such as Rett syndrome or fragile X syndrome. For other children, genetic changes (mutations) may increase the risk of autism spectrum disorder. Still other genes may affect brain development or the way that brain cells communicate, or they may determine the severity of symptoms. Some genetic mutations seem to be inherited, while others occur spontaneously.
Environmental factors. Researchers are currently exploring whether factors such as viral infections, medications or complications during pregnancy, or air pollutants play a role in triggering autism spectrum disorder.

No link between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder

One of the greatest controversies in autism spectrum disorder centers on whether a link exists between the disorder and childhood vaccines. Despite extensive research, no reliable study has shown a link between autism spectrum disorder and any vaccines. In fact, the original study that ignited the debate years ago has been retracted due to poor design and questionable research methods.

Avoiding childhood vaccinations can place your child and others in danger of catching and spreading serious diseases, including whooping cough (pertussis), measles or mumps.

Risk factors

The number of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder is rising. It's not clear whether this is due to better detection and reporting or a real increase in the number of cases, or both.

Autism spectrum disorder affects children of all races and nationalities, but certain factors increase a child's risk. These may include:

Your child's sex. Boys are about four times more likely to develop autism spectrum disorder than girls are.
Family history. Families who have one child with autism spectrum disorder have an increased risk of having another child with the disorder. It's also not uncommon for parents or relatives of a child with autism spectrum disorder to have minor problems with social or communication skills themselves or to engage in certain behaviors typical of the disorder.
Other disorders. Children with certain medical conditions have a higher than normal risk of autism spectrum disorder or autism-like symptoms. Examples include fragile X syndrome, an inherited disorder that causes intellectual problems; tuberous sclerosis, a condition in which benign tumors develop in the brain; and Rett syndrome, a genetic condition occurring almost exclusively in girls, which causes slowing of head growth, intellectual disability and loss of purposeful hand use.
Extremely preterm babies. Babies born before 26 weeks of gestation may have a greater risk of autism spectrum disorder.
Parents' ages. There may be a connection between children born to older parents and autism spectrum disorder, but more research is necessary to establish this link

Just personally, I think the fact that people are having children older in life, and we are actually diagnosing autism across the whole spectrum these days (and are actually calling it autism), are probably the biggest reasons why the numbers of kids being diagnosed are rising.

This is a big possibility. Globally, people have been trending toward having kids at a much older age due to a variety of cultural and socioeconomic reasons. I'm curious to know if there have been studies done to see if there is any correlation between general mental disorders and the parents' ages. I'd wager there is. No matter how much modern medicine has improved, or how healthy we feel in our 30s or even 40s, it just isn't the prime age for conception. That's an unfortunate fact that can't be changed until we discover a way to modify the human genome and rewrite the rules.

If age is the case, it will be very difficult to reverse it unless you do a complete cultural change, which can take multiple decades. Today it takes people a long time to settle into their careers and relationships, and you are wayyy past the teens early twenties which was the age our grandparents were having kids.

I've read that overexposure to plastics and cellular technology is a possible cause. It kinda makes sense but there's really no numbers behind it.
Google "Hind Rajab"

Israel kills a child every 45 minutes and ban aid workers from bringing in baby formula
Total being starved by Israel = 500,000 -1,000,000

Vaclac wrote:The hipocracy is stunning. I support the protestors (the vast majority that are peaceful anyway - there is no justification for the violent ones and they undermine the cause). But I also supported the anti-lockdown protestors. The difference in government attitude on them is crazy. The right to protest is meaningless if the government decides what you may legitimately protest and what you can't. And using a justification that actually applies to both protests to condemn one but not the other is plainly treating the right to protest differently on the basis of their message. If we care about the right to protest generally rather than only a particular cause, then it needs to apply universally.

Yep, it really is mind boggling. Along with the issue of the government deciding which type of protest is allowed, just the overall disconnect between their actions related to the protests and other rules they are still enforcing is crazy. Trudeau and other politicians are now taking photo ops and walking with hundreds or thousands of protestors, while in the same province people still aren’t allowed to have a proper funeral for a loved one or are being ticketed and called reckless by the mayor of Brampton for having backyard bbqs with family.

I have zero issue with the protests themselves and my guess is we aren’t going to see any huge spike in cases, just like we didn’t see any big spike in cases because people were hanging out in a park. But, If the government still considers COVID a serious enough health risk to stop people from having funerals, seeing friends and family, or allowing restaurants to make a bit of money by opening patios, It makes absolutely zero sense to support and participate in public gatherings with hundreds or thousands of people (regardless of the cause).

I had two kids in my 40s (after a misspent youth pursing a music dream). I know there was an Israeli study from 10-15 years ago that identified paternal age - NOT maternal - as a significant risk factor for autism in kids. The thing is, women produce all their eggs as part of puberty, and then release them once per cycle for the next 30 years. Whereas guys produce sperm on an ongoing basis throughout our lives, and so the older we get, the less integrity it has. I'd been bombarded with environmental toxins, bad food, the occasional spliff and microplastics for 4+ decades, and my sperm was likely not of the same quality it was back in my teens and 20s.

My kids seem fine, maybe because I've eaten an organic diet since I was 30. But I wouldn't advise anyone to wait as long as I did to father children.

Freeze your sperm in your 20s...then you will be able to father children well into your 70s.

Went for a walk today with my dog and there were people playing a soccer game on the field, tons running around the track. The playground had locks on it but I assume that would've been used People are going life is back to order but it's not. I expect outbreaks in a few weeks, yes the weather was nice but people were not doing anything suggested including masks and social distancing.

fbalmeida wrote:Faith in science is an oxymoron. Science asks that you look at the evidence. The idea that vaccines cause autism is utter nonsense.
Mandatory vaccines have nothing to do with trusting "elites". It has to do with proportioning beliefs to evidence and the technical competence of multiple people employed by multiple institutions.

When your airplane takes off do you ask: "Why should I trust the pilot?" If you don't, why not? Consider that, non-rhetorically, and then apply the answer to other aspects of modern life.

The "elites" are synonymous with "powerful people that are out to con me". While such people exist, we should not be so parochial and insensitive to the point of being unable to distinguish competence from ignorance, knowledge from dumbassery, science from nonsense.

Sure, I have faith in science. Just like I have faith in math. Do I trust all scientists and the people who fund them? Different story. I personally have no problems with vaccines. I'm an adult living in a country with a health care system I trust. If doctors and nurses do so, so will I if I must. I will still doubt if it's necessary though.

I was talking about people with young children and those who live in certain countries as impoverished individuals. Maybe I misunderstood but when I read Herd immunization I thought that meant the world? I can think of lots of places where people could have serious reservations for trusting Western Medicine and for good reason. The rumours of the negative effects vaccines have had on certain regions of our globe probably make you roll your eyes. But do they in areas with survivors telling stories?

When I read heard immunity I think global. Otherwise what's the point? If I'm living somewhere where Nestle advertised it's better to drink formula in dirty water than mother's milk you got to wonder. Heck, scientists let African-American men have syphilis for years for the sake of "science". Imagine what scientists have done in other countries in the name of Science if they did that in the GOOD ole USA.

Parochial, nice word. I had to look it up.

Well, that's two different things. Planes have been shown to be dropping heavy metals. You can tell by the long lingering chemtrails. Or so my limited understanding has me to believe. Surrey just did some huge aerial spraying for some moth at the expense of the residents living there.

As to, do the elites get vaccinated? Yes, if it is necessary. And likely way before any of us.

Nothing makes sense. Did God create this world? Is it a random occurrence? I'm not saying the "elites" are doing anything. I'm just some dude who likes beer and can type too fast for my own good. But if you don't think there are people who have immense wealth and power on this planet who could be thinking outside the box? Well, then agree to disagree. Everything we have as people was fought for. It's a never ending balance.

All I'm saying is a little trepidation moving forward is a wise move.

Spoiler:
1) Anti vaxxers don't like any vaccines...including the "tried and true". Polio, measles, small pox...incidence of ALL these viruses dropped to the point of eradication in developed countries until this whole anti-vaccine movement...and now we see measles and mumps outbreaks in 1st world countries where outbreaks never occurred for decades.

2) No one knows what SARS cov2 behaves because there isn't enough data and time to establish how it behaves. And anyone who claims to know definitively is lying. We have decades of influenza data and barely 7 months of covid 19...so give it some more time.

3. No truth. No scientific truth. A mother who has 2 children that have autism...unfortunate for her but maybe it was going to happen irregardless of the vaccinations. Could the kids be genetically predisposed to being autistic especially if both children have it? And yet we know of billions of people who didn't end up autistic after vaccines...so there is no real correlation to the vaccines themselves. I get it...parents need to find something to blame and explain why their kid is not like other kids...and can't accept that there isn't really a good explanation. It isnt necessarily their fault their kid is autistic but being able to find a something to pin the blame on brings closure. But a lot of medical phenomena happen with no real cause or explanation...it is just bad luck. Some birth defects, childhood cancers, and even some adult cancers just simply happen. I know that myself because I have seen several relatives, coworkers and relatives of friends in recent years develop an aggressive lung cancer and die within months...and none of them ever smoked a day in their lives. It is what it is some times.

Some people might point to the ever increasing numbers of autism found in kids over the decades as a result of vaccines...and they will have conveniently ignored the fact that autistic people have existed long before the invention of vaccines. The condition has always been around...the difference is that the label of being "autistic" didnt always exist and the criteria for considering someone to be autistic has changed over the decades as to include a larger spectrum of symptoms. People once considered schizophrenic, slow, (Please Use More Appropriate Word), etc may well be considered autistic today. That is a good thing as it allows these children to get access to better management. So autism isn't new and cases aren't necessarily increasing...but the way we classify it...is.

4. Those would be Jehovah's witness who refuse blood products like actualbl blood or components of actual blood. A vaccine isn't a blood product. It is something (a dead or living but not deadly virus or fragment of virus) that is produced not using blood of any sort and done in a lab setting.

5. Forced vaccination is a ridiculous idea. No one is chasing you around town with a syringe. It would be a good idea to get vaccinated because you would rather get immunity by vaccine than roll the covid 19 dice...get the actual virus and hope you don't end up on a ventilator in the ICU or die. And the idea of herd immunity is important as well...because we don't want the virus out there with the possibility of mutating...so the more immune people...the less chance the virus gets to survive.

6. Who the f are they? Is this the Illuminati?

7. Why trust science and pharmaceutical companies? You have a headache...what do you do...pop a Tylenol or Advil. You get pneumonia and show up at the doctor's office because you can't breathe then get an antibiotic and puffers...then you get better. You gave a heart attack and get to a hospital...and they start giving you all sorts of drugs and start doing procedures on you...and you survive. You get cancer...start chemo and go into remission and you survive. Guess who you have to thank for that? Science and the pharmaceutical companies! They aren't all benevolent and doing it for charity but they aren't all bad and evil. I hope your distrust for science doesn't lead you to show up at a naturopath or alternative practitioner if you have chest pain because...personal story...it happened to a close family friend when she was visiting and staying at my parents' house. Complained of chest pain while out with other friends just after lunch...and they all went to an alternative medicine practitioner who "diagnosed" her with indigestion and sent her with some BS garbage treatments. She got back to my parents' house and went to take a nap. SHE NEVER WOKE UP. It was a massive heart attack...and she would be alive today if they only took her to a hospital. She was 65 and otherwise healthy. My parents are still traumatized by the whole situation...2 years after the ordeal.

Good post. I don't distrust science. I distrust people. Trust me, if I die of a massive heart attack it will have nothing to do with my trust in the system. It would be purely from myself being a stubborn man. Once I get a bad earache I go crying to a doctor.

As to who are the elites? Come on. That's not complicated. Follow the money. Especially the longer back in time it travels. And I'm not saying they are up to anything. Although I've heard rumblings of agenda 21, cough. What would some simple guy like me know? I'm just saying looking at the world's history it seems foolish to assume our governments got our backs unconditionally. Especially if living in a country as a poor person dealing with the after effects of colonialism.

He wasn't within 10 metres of the door so he was in compliance with smoking regulations and by-laws, but should "no smoking within 6 feet of someone else" be compulsory for the same or similar reasons we should be maintaining such distances for this virus?

What about the person who decides to drink and drive who puts themselves and others on the road at risk by their failure to comply?

Should all vehicles be equipped with a breathalyzer and all motor vehicle operators regardless of their sobriety be required to pass a breathalyzer test before the ignition key can be turned and the vehicle started?

BC releasing some interesting coronavirus data on their part.

- Richmond BC has one of the lowest rates of infection and is going almost 3 weeks without a case. Dr Bonnie Henry attributes to Richmond taking the virus very seriously in the beginning and their strong proponent of masks.
- The strains from China and Iran were caught early and were mitigated from the population.
- The big damage in BC came from the European/Eastern Canada strain. They linked it to someone from Germany who attended the dental conference in March.
- The dental conference was BC's superspreader
- Next damaging strain came from the US

"Coronavirus patients without symptoms aren’t driving the spread of the virus, World Health Organization officials said Monday, casting doubt on concerns by some researchers that the disease could be difficult to contain due to asymptomatic infections. "

“From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual,” Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, said at a news briefing from the United Nations agency’s Geneva headquarters. “It’s very rare.”
