Re: Official 2022 Draft Thread
If he declares, Moussa Diabate is a guy that fits the mold of players we tend to go after
6’11”, 7’3” wingspan PF (although an ideal fit as a C in our system). He’s mobile for his size and a good defender.
Not a good shooter right now, but he’s been developing his midrange jumper and 3PT shot throughout the year. Has the potential to become a capable shooter especially under our development
(Part of me hopes he stays at Michigan for another season, but if he ends up a Raptor I’ll be happy)

I think Dyson is intriguing, but I doubt an 18 year old will be available in the 30s. By that point you get the 22 year-old players. At that point you could get a good shooter, but I do like a gamble on an athletic guy like Shannon Jr. Toronto does like to bring in superior athletes and he is a high motor, highly efficient finishing at the rim.
2021 - Isaiah Todd was drafted #31, Greg Brown fell to #43, Shariffe Cooper #48, Brandon Boston #51.
2020 - Tyrell Terry #31, Vernon Carey #32, Jahmi'us Ramsey #43
None are really doing great, but still.

Sure it is possible he falls to the 30s, but he has a bit of hype and with fellow Aussie Josh Giddey looking great, I just doubt he lasts. Honestly, I think we want a guy that is going to need less development time if we keep the pick. We are pretty young.

I think he'll stay for one more year to play 30+ minutes at center. I think Dickinson leaves now that he's hitting 3s, since he tested last year and he's not going to get any quicker anyways, so will only be able to play backup minutes as a drop coverage guy off the bench anyways. Only other big on the roster will be a freshman.
He definitely looks like a Raptors style center when he's trapping 25+ feet from the rim effectively. Not sure what kind of offensive potential he has, since I don't see him being a good 3pt shooter and I'm not sure he's a lob threat, though definitely not a non-finisher like Achiuwa is at this point. Some good rim cuts in the last few weeks with Dickinson pick and popping more.
Where's the D?

Yeah as of right now I’d lean towards him staying an extra year however things can quickly change within the next month.
I think he can be a late lotto to mid 1st rounder if he stays an extra year and develops his shot a bit more

Well, what about Hunter Dickenson at #31. He should be available in the 2nd if Luka Garza ended up #52.
He is shooting a good 78.8% FT's, so his 3pt shooting seems likely to translate to the NBA. Maybe he's like Brad Miller? As a sophomore, he's as good as Miller was as a senior. Though not sure about in today's game.
Actually, he looks like JV 2.0.

I like Dickinson but he’s gonna struggle defensively in the NBA. He’s also not really the type of prospect Raptors look for

He doesn't move that well and he's not as powerful as JV. More of a poor man's Brook Lopez. He is definitely coming on as a shooter, but I don't think we'd take him 31st. Better defender than Garza just by being so big, but has to be in drop coverage. He's a really good offensive player and he's big, but I'm not sure that makes even a backup center anymore, and definitely not the way we play. His value is more as a scorer against 6'10 centers than it would be as a guy to guard Embiid and Jokic well.

He might be a good situational player and someone that can be physical with Embiid and Jokic and not worry about fouling out off the bench.

Sorry I am a Gen Xer & not following super closely, but did we lose our 1st round draft pick for this year from the Young trade?

Yes we did but we got a high second round pick that replaces it. It's about a 10 spot drop in draft.

Walker Kessler shot 8 for 10 for 22 points, 7 rebounds and 7 blocks tonight.

If Patrick Baldwin drops to #31, do you draft him? Taller Brandon Boston?
I'm hoping Kendall Brown's continued poor play has him drop to #31. He needs a couple years of development but I believe in him more than Baldwin, who would be lucky to become close to Jaden McDaniels.

Reminds me of Skal dropping. People wanted to jump all over Masai for drafting Pascal over him, I think he made the right choice. If someone drops because they suck, don't draft them. If someone drops because there are just better players or they were injured (OG) go for it.

If a player is available that Masai likes he'll move up and draft them. I really like Nikola Jovic and surprised to see him so low on the mock draft boards.

The way he's playing the last couple of weeks he's going to get into the lottery imo
Hoping abaji drops would fit perfectly as the backup two who can score only low usage which is what the team needs.
