It's a positive sign that he's taking as many shots as he has for, but it's also no surprise that Nurse is telling him to shoot more because it's not in his nature to look for his own.

not surprising, considering his college high was 21 points.

right now barnes is like perfectly suited in the short roll role, or really be used in any actions where he gets the ball near the nail and can use his vision to hit the open man whilst having the drive still be a threat since he's like one step away from the rim (for him). personally i think that 's the best way to get him involved in a lot of plays and still lets him develop his decision making until he improves his ability to create on-ball, which will happen in the offseason.

We've been spoiled with his instant success that we forget he's still a project, it'll take some time to fully unlock Barnes. But he's flashy potential like a mother foooker.

OG was also a bit similar coming into the NBA. He was an off the bench stopper in college and many didn't think he'd have a good enough offensive game to be a scorer in the NBA. It takes time, but you can cultivate a scorer's mentality. No one pictured him doing step-backs several years in.

Also the open lanes and lack of physicality in the NBA is a big difference from college, so in a lot of ways players haven't really experienced the ability to play free until they hit the league.

Scottie is down to #2 on the Rookie ladder after Mobley's big week.

There was a play in last night's game against the Celtics where he came down the court, got the ball and backed his way in toward the hoop quickly, and then just leaned in and turned around all in one motion to bank it in. Does anyone else remember this? Is there a way to find a clip of this? (I think Matt made a comment about how he didn't even look like he was looking at the basket)

Anyway, it was an incredibly difficult play but he just made it look so easy, and the defence couldn't do a thing because of his size and the way he leaned into them. For me, it's plays like that that make me think that when he shows consistent aggression on the offensive end, and refines his shot, he's going to be damn near unstoppable someday.

he has done that a couple times this season already. I remember him doing it against Indiana as well. Just what he does well. He is tough to stop in the restricted area.

Every game I see, the more I am impressed with his incredible touch. I don't know how so many the draft analysts who said he's a zero level scorer missed out on how incredible his touch is. He's making those BS looking floaters at awkward angles by just using his length and soft touch. It reminds me of how Jokic gets his points in the paint. Scottie was also an excellent finisher in college so its not like this came out of no where. Also, his excellent touch bodes well for his future prospects with his jumpshot.

I think this season is playing with house money so I’d love to see Nurse just put the ball in Scotties hands and make him the point guard and lead playmaker. Fred is so much more effective off ball.

1.5 level scorer would be most accurate lol. Great inside the paint, inconsistent but capable mid range shooter and no 3pt shot yet.

last night I took Scottie Barnes on the over at 13.5 points.

tonight they have adjusted his over to 14.5 points, and the odds are -130 instead of +125.

still riding the over tonight.

Posted this on the GB - Barnes is doing rare things right now. I said it after game 1 - he's the best player on this team. By end of year, to me (I have a very different rubric than others), I expect hm to be one of the best in the league.

What Barnes is doing offensively is, IMO, baffling. Beyond so. (Used a cutoff of 28MPG for the following)

19th in the league in % of FGM unassisted. Most of those above him are stars like Doncic, PG, Giannis...but that's irrelevant.

Among those top 19...

1st in % of points off TOs

1st in % of points in the paint (by far - as an aside, he's currently 8th in the league overall in % of points in the paint, mostly all big men and Cs....meanwhile this guy operates on the perimeter - already very elite in this regard)

3rd in % of points from fast break (behind Giannis and Ja)

Last in % points from 3s and 2nd last in % points from FTs.

He's quite literally scoring 17PPG strictly off of hustle and IQ while maximizing opportunistic situations..

Without any threes. Barely any FTs. No plays. No schemes to get him open.

His only discernible flaw pre-draft has led to him becoming one of the most efficient scorers in the entire league.

Most excited I've ever been about a Raptors rookie. Never been so confident in calling one of our guys a future superstar. Does it on both ends too. Sky is the limit for this kid and his insane work ethic he'll definitely get there..

Buddy, take his assists every night. Today they set it at 1.5 TN

Easiest 1k I made all year.

His intensity is contagious. If you're killing it he'll let you know and it elevates everyone. That period where he led that run that put us back up today was nuts. And then Boucher,. Svi and Trent I believe got it going and he was in their face hyping them up.

There is no way you can root against this guy.

Barnes is the truth

He seems to pick a quarter in every game where he goes to work. Tonight it was the 3rd Quarter where he seemingly single handedly got us back into the game. Everything is within the flow of the game, nothing is forced

His stretch in the 3rd really was special. Short bursts like that are going to stretch out longer until its full quarters, halves and entire games.

His defense does need a lot of work though. He's getting by on energy and his physical tools but he needs a lot of refinement and reps on that end. I think he'll be a lot better by season's end.
