A Front-Loaded deal also makes it less likely the Nuggets will match.

Dagger, i think this is bad, it also brings us closer to the luxury tax meaning we cant really use the TE

No, I've been calculating that he and Alabi are splitting the full MLE, so it's immaterial to my calculation whether Kleiza gets $4.8m or $5m. It means Alabi is getting $800,000 instead of $1 million

I don't think they were planning to use it in the first place. But you don't have to use all of it.

Isn't Alabi on a rookie contract? How can that count towards the MLE?

The Kleiza signing would be front loaded. That's a relief, at least.

If his contract is 18.8 over 4 year and frontloaded at 5, LK averages 4.6 per subsequent year. How does this type of frontloading even remotely make a difference?

rookie minimum contract is 400,000 but im guessing the Raptors are signing him for more because they believe hes worth more.

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

Kinda like how Amir said his league offers were "in the 25's to maybe 30" and how he can't take the smile off his face ever since BC offered him 34.

2nd round picks do not operate on the same rookiescale with guaranteed pay.

Not necessarily true. There is no scale per se and nothing is automatic, but everything is negotiable, and often the first year is guaranteed, sometimes the second. Only the third year of a three year deal is rarely guaranteed.

Was this stated anywhere? BC get off the crazy juice he'd have been happy enough to get the starting gig

Small thing, but BC shows some good forward thinking for the franchise by front loading this contract.

Good: Frontloading the contract.
Bad: Way overpaid for a guy Denver probably wouldn't have gone so far out of their way to offer a contract. (just conjecture, but I assume they wouldn't given his exit/their payroll)

they would have to significantly front load the contract in order for it to make any difference in the Raps consideration to stay under the cap. from the sounds of it, the contract is 18.8 over four years and the 1st year is 5 mill

If BC has something of quality for the TPE and wants to stay under the cap you dump Banks, Evans and or Belinelli

Nice. I like this guy and just the way he talks. Not sure if his vid was posted from the presser.

It's not just about getting DEN to not match, it's about getting Kleiza to sign the offer sheet. Duh.

I would disagree on the "way overpaid" part. If you have seen what the rest of the FA contracts have looked like this summer, I would say they got good value. Kleiza was a low-minute, high- production player for the Nuggets and was the Euroleague scoring leader last year. Yes, the Euroleague is not the NBA. However, it is a superior league to the NBDL and he showed that he could lead a team and that he has the skill and mental ability to be a very good basketball player. We can't expect too much, but I think he'll be a fantastic pick-up for a back-up SF who can fill in at the 3 or 4 in the starting lineup if someone goes down.
