What if Dragic left enough money on the table in a buyout so we could trade a future 2nd or something minimal to the Mavs and get Josh Green and Moses Brown back while remaining under the tax with a 15 man roster?

That would basically be the same thing as the Dragic for Powell, Green and Brown rumoured deal on the table except we don't have to take back multiple years of Powell as salary filler.

Would this series of transactions be allowed under the CBA and would it work on the Mavs end as well?

Expiring contracts help teams willing to pay (draft picks a la OKC) get off long term $ or pick up a short term improvement for a playoff/title run i.e. Bucks and PJ Tucker.

Given the above, we seem to have a player on an expiring deal and who plays a position of need for at least a handful of teams! Why then would we pay someone of value to walk without compensation? :noway:  :nonono: :banghead:

Mavs aint the Lakers they need to get out of here with that entitled BS. Dragic is still a useful player do I like him no but the Mavs need to offer a fair package. I'm sure a 1st rd pick or even there low end prospects like green or brown gets it done. If not Dragic can play or sit at home it doesn't matter. Say what you will but the Mavs have more pressure to please there star Luka. Thank god Masai is our GM and he doesn't play these games because I know old management would regularly get bent over.

Technically allowed, but would raise eyebrows. Once a player is bought out all other 29 teams should have an equal fair chance to pick up the player in free agency. This feels like a quid pro quo, and as such would likely create a penalty from the league.

Has Jake Fischer been wrong?

He called Barnes to the Raptors.
Ball to Chicago S&T with Charlotte and New Orleans
Noel, Burks and Fournier to NY
Payton back to Suns
Barton back to Denver
McConnell back to Indiana
Bledsoe to Memphis for pick swap
J Rich to Boston... then later Schroeder to Boston

Now he's saying Dragic will be bought out. It likely will happen. I'll actually be surprised if it doesn't happen now.

Lame if true, gifting a player to Mark Cuban.

We already gifted Lowry to Miami, Masai/Webster being Santa Claus this offseason if true. I still doubt we will buy him out.

There are so many people against a buyout, and are even saying that Masai would never do that because he's not dumb. But that narrative will likely change.. it always does when Masai does something that outright angers people initially (like drafting Barnes at 4).

Me personally, I think they do it because they don't want a 35 year old around the room. They had a chance to keep Lowry and decided to part ways and he's the better player (and our GROAT). Plus the buyout will get them far enough below the tax line that they can field a 15 man roster.. and even use some of their MLE or their BAE on a free agent that has not signed yet.

Plus we like to get on the good side of agents. And Dragic is represented by Bill Duffy. He also represents Scottie Barnes, and future Raptor RJ Barrett.

Fischer has owned the off-season with being correct.

I believe he’s going to be bought out at this rate. Hope that he is traded but a big failure on Maasai’s part if Precious was all we got considering what Demar went for.

We don't have leverage. Dallas can wait a while as they're likely to make playoffs without him. Negotiations 101.

Goran may be a nice way of getting involved with a Ben Simmons multi-team trade. Sixers could maķe use of him, and any bigs they recieve would make sense to be re-routed our way (e.g. Myles Turner, Marvin Bagley).

Couldn't the Mavs then frame Josh Green and Moses Brown to Toronto as a facilitation move for them to sign Dragic?

how do we not have leverage? He's signed for another year.

Play him and trade him at the deadline. There will be callers. Dallas isnt the only team going to be interested in him.

Holding on to him to trade in seaaon also makes some sense.
Any of the proposed trades with Dallas make no sense. Not happening at this time.

Theres no buyout coming they already said that.

Au contraire. It is now being reported that there will be a buyout.
All those saying there will be no buyout are not being realistic which is par for the course on this site.

Report? That fisher tweet is pure speculation. That’s not a “report”.

I’m waiting for the spin on this board that acts like this is a brilliant move or Masai had no choice if this goes through. After all the hyping up of getting Moses Brown…

Let’s wait and see what happens but buying out Dragic without letting him build some value and without exploring the market is a mistake.

Even letting him play and contribute to the team for the whole season and maybe a team would do a sign and trade for him next summer for like $12-15 million per year for 3 so a team doesn't need to use it's MLE on him.

How to trick people into thinking you’re legit:

1. Report often on teams with large fan bases
2. Search the Internet for widely circulated rumours
3. Repeat these rumours in a tweet claiming sources are telling you this.
4. Cover your butt by claiming it’s not set in stone /things can change

Fisher has been right more often than not this summer. Let's not kid ourselves.

Still, he's being pretty clear that his source isn't connected to the Raptors, but that this is a league wide prediction

Return to Toronto Raptors
