Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD 2
By the way, we'll find out very soon just how legit Sheppard and Dillingham are, no team with Kentucky's particular balance between offensive and defensive (non) efficiency has ever reached the sweet 16. It would be a historical first. Margin of error is razor thin for UK, their guards need to shoot the **** out of the ball.

Not sure how educated this opinion is, but I think Oregon is humming and has the potential to do a lot of damage. They have good match-ups against basically any team. I also think UConn wins out in the ends (not going far on a limb, I know).

Who we gonna replace them with?

Generic answer - but I believe UK will at the very least reach the Final Four.
I love their star power.
In Masai We Trust

Calipari is a terrible in game coach though.

1. Our team is decimated with injuries and personal issues; we are fielding essentially IQ and bench players plus G Leaguers.
2. No one is firing anyone over lottery ball results.

If he were to get fired, I don’t think that’s what he’d be getting fired for

I have my concerns about his makeup but I won't mind the pick if Masai decides the reward is worth the risk.

Sheppard just keeps standing out to me as having that it factor. The way he plays, it' s just too easy
I'd be happy with Sarr as a big man pairing to go with Barnes
Coming out of this draft, we need a bucket getter.

I watched a bunch of his recent games. And he can look so lazy and disinterested at times. You can see the talent. He oozes it. But man there are times he's just hard to watch.

I'm a really big fan of this kid's game. His ability to defend, make plays and shoot with deep range off the bounce at 6'8" is very appealing. Needs to polish up things like ball security and finishing at the rim but overall a nice prospect.

Sheppard is sophomore aged freshman and comes of the bench but he does have that clutch ice veins factor. He's like Lillard/Steve Kerr mix.
I don't believe Sarr to be a true #1 or #2 pick in a good draft so better using a lower pick in draft. Look at Wiseman, Kwame Brown, Thabeet, Ayton, Bagley, and even Evan Mobley looks limited and just on par with Jarrett Allen.

He may end up like Ausar Thompson.

Reminds me a bit of Cam Johnson with a little less athleticism but a touch more game off the bounce. Not the most exciting prospect, but solid.

Haven't studied the draft that much but wanted Gradey Dick last year and getting similar vibes from Kyle Filipowski. Another smart/skilled player that can space the floor who looks to fit well in Darko's system. Ideally he can become a KO/Jakob hybrid

Virginia got smoked yesterday, any talk of Ryan Dunn near the lottery should end now immediately.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

they didn't get smoked because of their defense.

lol Ausar Thompson is a rookie, we don't know how he'll eventually end up. But a young energetic athletic wing that can potentially defend and just needs to hone their shot? We certainly don't need any of those guys lol. But Holland is way more of an advanced scorer compared to Thompson in comparison. And he's only 18.
People are overthinking it with him because all these players are flawed in some way. Even guys like Sarr/Dillingham/etc. There's a reason why a prospect like Sheppard is floating into top 3 consideration because he at least has shooting to fall back on and he can maybe defend a bit even if the size is a potential concern at the next level.
But we've seen in the past few games with guys on our team like a Nwora, for example, that you can have some semblence of size/scoring/shooting ability and still be disappointingly ineffective if you can't defend worth a crap.
I don't know if Holland will ever become a sniper at the next level but I do know he'll probably be able to defend and hold up athletically at the next level and he has more scoring chops already in his bag. He can pass a bit, hustles hard and I think that's a super young projet with proper traits that you take in/mold in your program similar to what we did with a Demar. You take the lumps and it bears fruit down the line.

Which makes me think he's JV with better handles. With our own pick I'd like to gamble for a higher ceiling player. If he drops to the teens, I'd be okay with him with the Pacers pick.
