I don't think he gets enough credit for his footwork and reading of the game. He's just a level ahead mentally of the typical Big 10 bigs like Dickinson, Cockburn and guys like that. People act like only guards get more space in the pros than college, but if Edey ends up on a team with skilled perimeter guys, he'll get the ball in spots where you can't defend him.
Defensively, I have no idea, but he's huge and he gives a damn. Michigan hasn't played Purdue yet so I'll take a closer look then.
I think the success of the Kessler pick will help him. He got played off the floor in the tourney after posting incredible advanced stats and Edey's are even better. So I think he'll sneak in the late first. High character dude who sounds very coachable, and even if he can't stay on the floor against Dallas or is a 15 minute guy in certain matchups, that's pretty normal for a center who makes 15-20M like Valanciaunas or Steven Adams and if you can get that sort of player for 4M a year, that's 10-15M in surplus value, and therefore a good pick once you get to #25 or so.
People love to project the draft, but if the best player in college basketball is over 6'1, he can only slip so far. And I don't mean best player like winning the Naismith, I mean advanced stats indicating he's the most impactful player in the country.
Agree on Dickinson part, he defended him well last season, will be a key matchup to watch.
Below is a PER list, not the best stat but still useful. Excluding non power 5 conference, all are in NBA. Tshiebwe still in college. Garza was a senior and honestly not big enough and slow feet. Taking Edey is a high reward, low risk bet. Hard to say where he goes but 1 or 2 teams will reach due to his uniqueness.
