Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread
Scottie has not been aggressive enough, it’s on him not the system.
It’s the same thing that has plagued him all the way back to his high school days. If he wants to be a superstar and he is to become what we think he can become, he should be firing 20+ shots per game and handling the rock throughout the majority of offensive sets.
He has to demand it and take it.

Scottie is currently at +0.7 Offensive EPM (76th percentile) and -1.8 Defensive EPM (12th percentile). Even by the eye test, his defense looks like it needs more work than people thought. I think he gets lost often off the ball and he loves to over help too much and leave players open. But, his offensive game has been a revelation, and its nice to see the data reflect that.

It's true, he's gotta be more assertive getting his own bucket.

He floats a lot during games, some of it is due to him being hard wired to not be a high usage guy, other factor is Nurse not putting him in places to succeed.
He’s usually off at the corner 3 for long stretches at a time.
I swear there was a moment where Cade and Barnes were both just parked at the corner 3 for their respective teams for like 6 possessions straight lol.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread
Scottie had 10 three point attempts in the first 10 games of the season but hasn't attempted a single one in the last 3 games.
Need him to attempt at least one per game.
His mid range jumper is already looking silky smooth. Need him to be more confident and aggressive shooting the ball. Will open the floor for the rest of the team as well.

I think he has too much respect for the vet on this team like Van Vleet and Siakam to dominate possessions. It's not up to him it's up to the Organization to determine if Van Vleet, Siakam and OG are beneficial for Scottie's development and it's also up to the vets like Van Vleet and Siakam to trust Scottie and allow him to take the Alpha spot on the pecking order. My take, that's not going to happen eventually something has to give, Cleveland had to trade Malcontents and ball hogs to give LeBron the freedom to operate. Same thing that happen to all potential young superstars in the NBA, you make them the focal point and you surround then with complementary players that will defer to them and not clash with them. Eventually this is what the Raptors will have to do sooner rather than later.

Lebron James was 19 and averaged 18.9 FGA per game in his rookie season. He went for it from day one.

I don't disagree that it's on him to take it but not every player starts off with the same mentality. LeBron already knew he was it before he was even a junior in highschool...
Guys who Scottie at times gets compared to ie/ Giannis, Kawhi...didn't start out as confident players who thought they were face of the franchise from day 1, they grew into it especially as they developed their skills and became more confident in their abilities. Give him time, he's already putting up numbers like some of the best players to ever played the game and yet it's still not enough for some of you lol give him more than a minute in the league.

He has the keys from day one, Scottie's accelerated development is a revelation. Ujiri and co have figured out that he's the future, and the keys will be handed to him real soon.

Nick has already offered "the keys". It's up to Scottie to embrace that opportunity, his role in the offense certainly allows for it.
I keep saying Scottie needs to be more aggressive. I didn’t like the last game when he only has seven cracks at it. I liked the game before when he had 19. I want this guy to take his chances and put the pressure on people and go to the basket more and shoot more.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread
This thinking that Barnes not getting enough shots up is going to hinder his development is nonsensical. The idea that development is tied to shot attempts isn't even accurate to begin with. But even if we accept it as true, Barnes is averaging 13.2 per game which is great for a rookie, 2nd only to Jalen Green in his class and WELL ahead of current star players in their rookie seasons. On top of that, the message from Nurse has constantly been for him to be even more aggressive looking for his own shot. He has the green light to take more offensive responsibility.
Look at the shot attempts:
Kawhi Leonard:

Giannis:

Jaylen Brown:

George:

Butler:

Harden:

Jokic:

Siakam:

OG:

Plenty of shots and minutes for Barnes:

Who knows where Barnes will end up as a player, but his development won't be hindered by a lack of opportunity.

He's definitely hitting that rookie wall and I'm wondering if part of it is the combination of his all-out approach and the rigors of the NBA schedule.
They’re using him wrong. He should mainly guard wings, not PG’s or 5’s. All the overly aggressive help defence is exhausting OG and FVV as well. It’s why both their defence have seen a big dip, it’s hitting OG the hardest as well.
Nurse is going to run these boys into the ground at this rate with no true 5 on this team.
I love Nurse, But I'm starting to agree we're just doing some unnecessary switches that actually hurt us more than being " position less defense". Nurse is going to need to find a balance or tweak some stuff.

Meh, I agree for the most part. But on the Raptors there's a hierarchy regardless if we believe in it Pascal/FVV/OG. Scottie's gotta be more aggressive for sure, but he also has to fall in line with our "stars" and established core. He'll figure it out in time.
