New Orleans was interested in Eric Gordon. With this move, takes them out of the running.

Should we be interested?

I doubt Indy says yes, but I'd love to see:

Dragic, Boucher & a first for
Myles Turner and TJ McConnell

We'd save a bit of money (getting us within $300k of the tax).

Could sub in Precious (and Flynn), or Birch for Boucher. If we do get Turner, we won't have minutes for all of Precious/Birch/Boucher anyways.

We'd then have a lineup of Fred/Gary/OG/Siakam/Turner with Scottie, TJ, Precious (or Birch) and Banton off the bench. That's a really good 9 man rotation, and it could improve next year as well with an MLE signing.

Hawks were also interested in CJ and this may open up a possibility of getting Bogdan. Raps waiting for this big deals to finish to see who is left out. Thats when we can get more leverage

If we're making a move for a big I would think it'd 100% be Boucher on the way out. Precious makes Boucher expendable. He's higher potential, younger, and not coming up on an extension for a while. If we bring in a player like Turner or Nurkic then Achiuwa can play the Boucher stretch big role off the bench.

I wouldn't break it up.

I think a single FRP plus Goran's expiring for Turner is too good of a deal to pass up imo.

We can figure out the minutes after. Winning is a cure for a lot and I think we'd push ourselves back into a 50+W team that could legitimately come out of the East as Scottie, GT & OG continue to develop (all of those guys have come off the bench in the not so distant past and they would all still be getting big minutes).

Worst case you just flip Turner again in the off-season or next deadline. Shouldn't be all that hard to get back equivalent value of essentially a pick in the 20s which most cases is just another rotation player.

If we trade Boucher in a deal to get a singular player (Turner)...we obviously upgrade in talent but our bench is still weak sauce and we still dont add any depth.

I think the Raptors are truly just trying to get players for just Dragic + Picks. And maybe some of the lesser guys like Flynn/Yuta/Bonga

Turner wants to be a Raptor. I think he'll sacrifice a bit being on a winning team and great organization. Will the game of Scottie and others suffer as a result? Not sure, I'm gonna assume Nurse knows about this and knows how to use him the best.

If we get Turner...he's not gonna come off the bench. Its just not gonna happen. Scottie will most likely head to the bench.

I'm a 100% sure of that

All this talk of who starts if we get Turner? Do you guys forget how we interchanged Serge and Gasol. Its not a matter of who starts but how minutes are distributed. It will all be based on matchups. Barnes is a rookie and shouldn’t be guaranteed a starting role anyways, he still has a lot to develop on the defensive end. I actually think getting Turner will help with Barnes development not hinder it. It also helps especially when our bigs are in foul trouble.

**** that. I'm sorry, I've defended this for a while when I thought we were going to bad.

We're 6th seed in a wide open East. If we buyout Dragic and he goes to a team and plays well...

A buyout would make me bitter. I don’t care about the agent relationship. Eat the contract and send the message to the league that if you want players in the future, you need to deal. No buyouts in Toronto.

The vocal minority here would start a civil war if Barnes went to the bench.

Agreed.

Let him stay home in Miami if a trade isn't made. I would not buy him out nor would I want him with the team if we are playing Miami in the playoffs. I don't know where Goran's loyalties lie.

When we traded for Marc Gasol, he came off the bench at first until it became totally obvious he should start over Ibaka.

The same thing would happen if we get Turner/Nurkic. That is how you play things without hurting any chemistry so it's not a big deal. We'd be upping our top end talent which every team that's trying to be good should be doing.

If a buyout allows us to get further away from tax line and get some other buyout candidates that may become available like what happened with Biyombo then you do the buyout, forget your feelings.

Not sure why, Turner would make the defense better. Barnes will still get a ton of minutes. Truth is he’s prone to mistakes on D, so having Turner start makes sense.

I think that's the benefit of moving Boucher for a big that isn't so redundant on the roster. It frees up the Dragic contract to bring in a rotation bench piece.

Turner is harder to make it work because of his contract but Boucher and Flynn for Nurkic and then Dragic for something like Bogdan Bogdanovic/Danilo Gallinari or Harrison Barnes would go a long way in balancing the roster IMO.

Marc was a veteran, a very savvy veteran. He was also pass 1st and was always looking to get his teammates involved. It's difficult to make that comparison to those two players. Different circumstance.
