Another "hot start, fade late" routine. But a really nice overall game from Scottie.

Huh?? Isn’t Scottie’s thing to start slow and turn up in the 4th? Now it’s hot start fade late? Which one is it?

Maybe he's talking about the 3 point shot.
Barnes has 15 points at the half, I wish he would have kept taking shots instead of letting RJ take over the bulk of shots.

The 3 pt shooting right now is only relevant for his C&S spots. He's taking a bunch of pull-ups now but he's clearly not a pull-up shooter from range yet.
There's no way around the main issue, though, which is that he has to become a good pull-up shooter if there's any hope of success with him as the primary scoring/initiating handler.

The one really promising thing to all of this is his FTr has steadily been climbing each and every single year.
Year 1: .231
Year 2: .242
Year 3: .262
Year 4: .355
Getting to the FT line consistently is another thing that separates stars from role players.

Not all misses and makes are created equal.

Barnes had Bam on him on the perimeter, he actually beat Bam with 1 simple move to the left and managed to get a clean shot off, he was short, but that simple move was very impressive in it's execution.
Barnes long strides and reach is what's going to give him separation if used well.

he's a better player than last year, more comfortable with the ball-handling but not reliable enough to consistently drive and put pressure on the defense, that's going to be key to being a playmaker
you can tell his working on the jumper. lots of misses there but the FO's giving him the greenlight to go through the growing pains there

I mean, that's a very glass half-full way to view that possession. Bam gives him lots of space because he's not a great shooter. When he crosses left, Bam sells out for the drive because that's the main concern about Barnes. Teams will live with giving Scottie that pull-up 3 all day long right now.

If i'm glass full, you might be glass empty.
The precision and speed of the move is what's impressive to me, it was 1 fluid motion, putting it another way, if he can pull that move off at the 3P line consistently, what's to stop him from using it anywhere else?

That is exactly why Scottie should keep on shooting this year to get more in game reps on shooting.

Knowing who you're talking to helps if you're gonna lip off. I haven't griefed Scottie for starting slow, nor remarked in general about his 4th quarter performance.
What I was saying is that for two straight games, he was hot early and cool late. In this one, he was 5/8 in the first half and 3/7 in the second. At one point, he was 7/11, then went 1/4 to close out. Kind of like the Detroit game where he was 3/7 to close.

We're focused on different things. The makes are what matter with Scottie, I don't have huge concerns about him creating space given his length/physicality. A simple cross into a pull-up when a defender is giving you a buffer is honestly unimpressive if we're talking NBA level in 2024, but it's good enough and he doesn't need Kyrie handles.
A guard who's getting crowded needs to burn defenders with speed and direction changes, Scottie's counter will be using his size and length to either push guys off, "swim" them behind onto his hip or stepback with his huge stride.
The hard part for him is making the shot.

The step back is likely the key here.
I'd like to see him fake a drive to get the defender to flinch to the rim.

Despite what the final stats will say, an actual mid game from Barnes against Miami tonight.

The guy was 15 points on 15 shots for 90% of the game, i'm calling it like it is.

10 boards and 9 dimes it wouldn't have been a bad game even if he stayed at 15. You are acting like 7-15 is the end of the world, he just wasn't at the line much this game. You are far too obsessed with TS%
Can tell who was and was not around for the Lowry years, that dude had a star level impact on nights he only had 10 points. Scottie is of the same breed but 6'9.
Raptors 5-5 with Scottie, and 2-9 without him further shows my point too.
Just because he didn't have a dominant TS night in a given game does not mean he was mid.

You're confusing mid with bad. I didn't say he had a bad scoring night, just honestly a so so one.
Barnes against the Pelicans was a bad scoring night. Tonight, he was ok.
