I could see a trade like this happening, but I would want to hold out for a better deal. I think Bargnani can get us more than this.

I would do a Bargnani+Solomon Alabi for Marvin, Zaza, and the 2013 pick.

I wouldn't Brags is easily better then Marvin Williams at this point. I mean what are we trying to do have the most Williams' play for this franchise? Marvin provides us a decent look at the 3 and I question if he's really that much better then James Johnson. Toronto is best suited to keep Bargs and go forward with the 2012 draft and pick our stud SF there. The 2013 pick is a real gamble The Hawks are a good team, with the addition of Bargnani I could easily see a 2013 pick in the 20's which could backfire for us.

Do you really think we'll get a better deal than Marvin and a pick?!?! I may be under evaluating Bargs...but 20ppg players aren't that hard to find...and who knows if he'll be a 20ppg player for a team with offensive options like Atlanta...he became the go to player here by default..I mean outside of DeRozan who else contributed on a nightly basis??

If someone offered me Marvin and pick...i'd take that and run. In my opinion Marvin is an upgrade over JJ and will be either a decent starter for this team or a great backup of the bench.

I don't know that deal for Marvin + 2013 seems pretty useless to me.

Let's not forget what Kleiza's useless butt locked up in a contract and going into 2012 draft class there's a good damn chance we're getting a young SF (Miller or Barnes) pending landing Drummond. There's no way I wanna load up the SF with a bunch of junk like that where I actually believe the least known name (JJ) actually has the best upside out of that given scenario....until the 2012 pick arrives that is.

Plus I haven't heard much of talent piling up in 2013 outside of Shabazz, Jabari and Randle...so with ATL's pick which will be closer 17+ I don't see the value in the pick at all.

I'm going have to agree here. That's a horrible deal for us and it will clutter our wings for years to come. It's not worth it for us at all. Trading Bargnani is going to be tough seeing as how he needs a very specific environment to thrive.

2013 will be a stacked draft

i would match jonas with bargs at this point, until ed can actually prove to be a 15+ 10 player...bargs compliments jonas better, imo bargs can be a consistent 23 6.5 player for many years

I would hope that Bargs is no longer on the team by the time Val gets here.

I don't understand these comparisons...how is bargs a better fit with Jonas than Ed? All we are doing with that is giving Bargs 30 shots a game to get his 23 points, while hoping and praying that Val can compensate for his defense and rebounding. The only way Ed gets to be a 15 and 10 player is if he plays. Plain and simple.

Why wouldn't Ed's defensive instincts and shot intimidation work with Val? I just don't get it.

Ed has to start.

I feel like Val/Ed or Val/Amir with Amir or Ed off the bench would be ideal for us come 2012 with a FA C in the mix. But with Val not coming over until 2012, if the lockout ends we will have another year to evaluate Ed/Amir/Bargs if we don't trade Bargs in what many people expect to be a losing season.

I don't think Colangelo is attached to Bargs. BC will have some tough decisions to make in the frontcourt soon, and another voice in management will hopefully make sure the right one gets made.

idea: Jonas to Memphis

Post#972 » by number15 » Wed Sep 28, 2011 9:18 pm

Recently Zach Randolph said he will follow where ever Marc Gasol goes in Free Agency...... Well this would be a chance for Toronto to become instant contenders, now and ofcourse it must be dont through a trade cause the cap isent there.

- Jonas Valanciuans, Andrea Bargnani, L. Barbosa (expiring), 1st rounder (2013)
FOR
- Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph
-------------

C- Gasol/Amir
PF- Zach/Davis
SF- J.Johnson/Kleiza........... (SF is weak :-?)
SG- Derozan
PG- Calderon/Bayless

This team could compete as soon as next season, plus we keep a young core and the 2012 pick...... is it a deal you make?

also is it a deal Memphis makes? I personally think they do "if" they suddenly realize they will lose them anyway. Then its good value

This trade would turn us into a top 3 seed in the East. The Raps would recieve immediate toughness from Randolph and a defensive anchor in Gasol. That coupled with a few good role players and a good three point and perimeter defender at the 3 would be a great team. The inside out tandem of DeRozan and Zach would be pretty beast to say the least.

A bad team should never trade first round picks that could become franchise players. Jonas might be one, and our 2013 pick another.

And Gasol's trade value will be hard to accommodate under trade rules.

Gasol's new deal would be in the vicinity of $12-13 million under the old cap, but we'd be taking on something like $28-30m in that scenario and sending out $18 million, give or take. We don't have enough cap space to make up the difference.

And why exactly does Memphis, which feels on the cusp of a breakthrough, trade for a guy who won't come until 2013, another who won't come until 2012? Zach's 30 now and has just signed a new long-term extension. Even if the value is fair, and I'm not saying it is, there is no way Memphis does this.

Zach Randolph has already signed an extension with Memphis at 4yrs-$66million. His recent quote of saying that he would sign with whatever team signed Marc Gasol was not in reference to the NBA. Randolph was saying that wherever Gasol signed to play during the lockout (Europe) he would like to go play with him. I'm guessing his hope is to continue to improve together for Memphis.

-We dont have the capspace for this kind of a deal
-Zach just signed an extension with the Griz
-Griz are now perennial contenders and there is nothing in this deal for them

The Griz are really really close to a breakthrough and had a very solid run this past season. I don't see why they'd trade their two frontcourt starters for our pieces. It doesn't really fit with what they're doing right now. And the only way I move a 2013 pick is a) if it's lottery protected b) it guarantees us a young franchise talent.

if the Spurs have won two picks to give George Hill to Indiana, can we get two picks giving Bayless to Phoenix?

We need to tank, Jarryd growing, we will win some more playing, without a large overhang of W's, resulting in a pick that is neither meat nor fish.

Just tank for a top 5 pick. Phoenix will give us 7-15 pick.
