Great contract for a player that's actually a full year younger than Agbaji and would have cost Toronto no assets. I'll never understand why management had zero interest in keeping him.

I was a big fan of his and thought he could carve out a career in this league. But the reality is many teams have passed on him and he’s only playing because the team he plays for wants to lose.

It’s similar to what happened last year with Banton. Remember that thread last year about how the FO screwed up by letting Banton go?

There’s a reason why Justin Champagnie signed for that dollar figure.

I don't really see the "gotcha" here with Banton. He outproduces his $2M/yr salary by far, they were paying Malachi Flynn double that at one point. Specifically with Banton, I think it's been heavily implied that he wanted out of Toronto for non-basketball reasons to get away from distractions so it's not really a mistake by the FO.

I was referencing the Banton thread last year where lots of people thought Banton had exploded but he was basically just scoring a lot on insanely bad efficiency for a team trying to lose.

With Chanpagnie, it’s similar. He’s on a horrible team and has been cut from three teams already. He’s getting minutes on a bad team. It’s genuinely hilarious how a couple posters here think it’s some big miss on the FO. lol.

Nobody is calling these guys stars, just that there's some potential to be a lower-tier bench player - which is totally fine at $2M/yr. Champagnie is the same age as Mogbo, I don't see he couldn't be given the same leash to develop. Toronto is a bad team too, who are they to look down on giving minutes to guys like that?

Champagnie got cut three years ago. So what in the world are you talking about? Lol. We are actually playing a lot of young players. No team is playing more rookies than us.

Mogbo is a rookie. Champagnie is not. He’s a 4th year player. Being the same age doesn’t mean as much when one has much less experience as the other. Pascal is a good example of that.

And if Champagnie is any good then he should fire his agent for signing such a horrendous deal.

One thing I noticed is OG’s percentages are down compared to his years with us. We seemed to get the most out of him. Shot nearly 50% from the field with us.

Plus, we are in a much different place today then back then. Today we have a development coach and are stressing development vs wins every night like with Nurse. You just can't compare now to then.

And back then, we all wanted better playable depth. But with youth you almost always have to live thru the ups and downs and mistakes. Nurse wasn't willing to do that so overplayed the guys he trusted. Look at Shead this year...Nurse likely doesn't stick with him with the bad shooting and turnovers.

It's also why youth often don't play as much on win now teams. Once you turn the page, you gotta cut out the mistakes. It's why Gradey could be on the outside looking in next year due to his poor defense and inconsistent shooting. You can live with one if the other is there. But not both.

Back to Champagnie, hope he has a long career.

Knicks blew out Miami tonight but Davion was giving Payne and Shamet fits. He can really guard the ball. Should have a role in the league going forward, just for that ability

It's sad, annoying, frustrating and not right. But Chris Broussard was correct.

hey where all the Fred haters at? With our boy senior playing the Rockets are 36-16. Currently on a 9 game win streak after Fred came back from missing a month (team went 8-9 while he was out) and are now 2nd in the west at 45-25.

Lol we're still here. 9 game winning streak where they played the Pelicans 2x, Magic 2x, Suns, 76ers, Mavs and their only two respectable wins came against the middling Bulls and Heat.

Only on the tanking raptors board does a 9 game winning streak get sneered at

OG was phenomenal last night. Arguably a more impressive game than KAT’s triple double.

36-16 is pretty wild. That’s a 57 win pace. All we had to do was get rid of Fred, OG and Pascal to see Scottie explode and become a superstar. Just waiting for that to come to fruition.

I'm sneering at them by pointing out that they did it against really weak competition? We're a team that has been blatantly tanking and we either beat or had extremely close games against most of those teams, so forgive me if I don't think it's some amazing feat.

Raptors reunion tonight in MSG. Rested Clippers too much for Knicks on a back to back after a close first half. Knicks down to their #4 PG after Cam Payne hurt his ankle. OG still on a roll with 28, Kawhi 27, Norm 19. Precious and Delon Wright (12 minutes ) made it 5 former Raps on the court

There was a reason why Masai was so hesitant to break this core apart. Adding a Superstar to that group could have meant another potential championship run. All 3 guys impact winning at a high level.

I am still baffled why we traded Davion Mitchell for a second round pick. He showed numerous times how he was an elite POA defender and he shot it well. I still remember Steph Curry struggling against us.

On Miami he is now up to 51/46/67 averaging 9 and 5 and playing elite defense. At times he carries Miami.

We kept Bruce Brown to up his value, but decided to ship out Mitchell for practically nothing. Should have kept him around as he has a marquee skill that playoff teams like. At worst we could have pulled off a sign and trade.

What is baffling about it? We traded him to open up minutes for Shead.

lol teams can just sign him with one of the exceptions, why would they give up assets for him? Even if he did somehow fetch a sign and trade (he won't), what kind of asset are you expecting back other than a SRP?

Miami Heat have been horribly bad with Davion. Despite his efficiency he hasn’t made an impact on that team. He’s just a third stringer. It was good to get something back for him.
