Houston readying full-court press for Bosh

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/spo ... 85746.htmlThe full dog and pony show... And a full-court press on BC too so the Rockets can tell Bosh they can make it all happen.
The Rockets would have to surrender a package of draft choices and players to get him, but Morey has shown he can build a roster quickly and without mega-resources.
Bosh and Yao represent a foundation to build around. The Bulls and Heat do have the salary-cap space to sign Bosh. However, he'd have to take $30 million less to sign with any team except Toronto.
That's why Morey spent the past year acquiring talented younger players and an additional first-round draft pick. From the moment he learned he wouldn't have Yao last season, Morey began preparing for this summer's pitch to Bosh — and to the Raptors.
We can thank Donnie Walsh of the Knicks (or Hedo Turkuglu) if Bosh ends up in Houston
This is already making Knick fans apoplectic.

There seems little doubt around the NBA that financial issues will force the Raptors to trade Bosh.
Huh?

The Dream better not be there, he owes us for that $17 mil golden parachute we gave him.

It was a mild winter in Canada so obviously our economy is hurting. Not enough snow to export, loss of revenue from the down igloo market, etc. Obviously that will affect the Toronto Raptors money situation.

Seems inevitable... just hope BC gets us a decent package in return (and I'm not even confident that he will).
And yeah,

@ financial issues, more like crappy on-the-court product issues.

Jeffries' expiring - $6,883,400
Jordan Hill - $2,669,520
Trevor Ariza - $6,322,320
Houston's pick this year (whoever that is) - $1,371,200
Knicks's pick in 2012
Houston's right to swap picks with the Knicks in 2011

I've lowered my expectations to about 30 cents on the dollar.

I dont want Trevor Ariza at all. Terrible contract and he honestly doesnt bring much more to the table than Weems + Derozan.
I'm not at all surprised that Houston is making a big push. Bosh will fit in great with that Roster. If Yao is healthy next year they become instant title contenders.

that plus since there was no snow in TO people could no use the dog sleights to make it to the AC for the games, hence decreased ticket sale...

If they keep their main cogs:
C - Yao Ming
PF - Chris Bosh
SF - Shane Battier
SG - Kevin Margin
PG - Aaron Brooks
With Luis Scola, David Andersen, Chuck Hayes and Kyle Lowry off the bench. Instant contender.

This is a good point:
What might separate the Rockets from those other teams is that Bosh is their first choice. Everything they hope to accomplish this offseason begins with the acquisition of Bosh.
There's no, “If LeBron says no, we'll be in touch,” or “Let us get back to you after we hear from Dwyane Wade.”
Kudos to Morey if they can get him. It would certainly alter the landscape in the West.

I'm really only interested if we can actually get those last three back...and even then there's a lot of uncertainty. Oh and just out of curiosity, that Knicks pick swap in 2011....are we guaranteed a pick with that? Like is it Houston's pick, with the rights to swap with the top-1 protected NY pick? (meaning it's actually an extra pick) Or just those swapping rights with NY with our own pick?

Why would we be interested in making them contenders? If they want to take Hedo for Ariza, I'd do it, but screw taking on a long-term deal for a role player.

Yeah - I'm not a big fan of Ariza either. i think a guy like battier could be helpful even for just a year or two. We could use a hard working vet or two as positive influences.
While I think Houston does get better with Bosh, I have my doubts about them being instant contenders. It remains to be seen how Bosh adjusts to a new team, system, etc and how the team adjusts to him. I think the last 7 years in Toronto have not built good habits into his game, but they have been largely glossed over since he was the franchise player here. He's not going to be able to point the finger at everyone but himself any more.

My guess
less talent up front, more futures. (And if you sign this year's draft pick, you can't trade him for 30 days so it's more likely we would get the rights to that player, which have no assigned dollar value in a trade)
Chuck Hayes
Jordan Hill
Jared Jeffries
Chase Budinger
Houston pick 2011 with right to swap with Knicks
Better of Houston's two 2012 picks (Houston or NYK)
Choice of Houston's 2010 selection or its 2013 pick (protected)
Rights to Sergio Llull

I find it very ironic that Bosh could have the same head coach many raptor fans prayed for after Smitch.. A real coach.. Rick Adelman.

Could be a little error on an otherwise good piece, or it could be a plugged in comment about the Raps' situation regarding the Luxury Tax and whether this team has the tools to keep CB in the fold and still add pieces to improve the team.
Rockets are one team I'd like to see him go to, if he leaves. They could give us a good deal back, I think they are a good organization, and they are West, so I could see myself watching some of their games and rooting for their success. I already like what they do, CB going there certainly wouldn't hurt. At least we'd know he go somewhere where they'll treat him well and do right by him.

I'd love to see the look on their faces if Donny Walsh pulled up with LeBron.
Anyway, these articles are good for the Raptors. Houston's made it clear they're willing to pay, now Chicago and Miami know the score.
If I'm the Raptors, I wouldn't touch a Houston package until I see what New York does.

That's a pretty weaksauce package IMO. I keep thinking we can do better. The only real asset in that trade is the Jeffries expiring which doesn't really do much good for a rebuilding team. Hill isn't a great prospect, and those mid-round picks aren't going to result in any stud players. Ariza is overrated and he doesn't even want to be here. I'd still much rather look at other options where we can at least get one upper-tier prospect, like say Beasley or Harden for example. Even Bynum would be a better option.
