Carlesimo to Join Raptors - Confirmed!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5236564P.J. Carlesimo has an agreement in principle to join the Toronto Raptors as an assistant coach under Jay Triano, league sources say.
Carlesimo last served as a head coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but was replaced by Scott Brooks midway through the 2008-09 season.
Prior to that, Carlesimo served as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs under Gregg Poppovich.
Carlesimo spent this season working for the Spurs as a color commentator on their radio broadcasts.
Carlesimo has compiled a 204-296 record as a head coach having helmed the Portland Trail Blazers (1994-97) and Golden State Warriors (1997-2000) before taking over the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007 before their move to Oklahoma City.
An official announcement is expected later this week.

I know a lot of people are going to be hating on this move, but I think it's a great move. Raptors seriously lacked NBA coaching experience on the bench. Iavoroni was not enough...at least Carlesimo gives Triano another baksetball mind to worry about the X's and O's so that Jay can spend more time with the players.

But, a good addition. Let's hope Jay grows a pair this offseason and gets Bargs mad enough to choke him out too!

meh.... He hasn't been the same since Latrell choked the **** out of him. Still I don't mind adding another basketball mind to the fold.

Pretty smart move from the organization for a few reasons.
1) They have Jay under contract and have paid a lot of money over the years to ask coaches to walk away. I don't they want to do that with Jay if they don't have to.
2) PJ obviously can help Jay next season.
3) PJ is ready to take the reigns if BC feels the need to relieve Jay Triano of his coaching duties at some point in time.
All coaches are fired at some point unless their name is Jerry Sloan. Jay's time will come eventually but they're giving him a chance to see what he can do and if he can't perform... we have a nice backup ready to go who's familiar with the pieces and what BC will try to do.

This is a bit of a condemnation I'd say. BC said - I'm bringing you back Jay, but not without more help.
Step 1 is admitting there's a problem. Not sure hiring Carlisemo would be my step 2. Maybe he'll choke out Hedo though.
