Linas Kleiza - The Rising Star

At the time of the Linas Kleiza signing, many people on this forum were bashing it.. for multiple reasons. I for one, was ecstatic about this signing, and I feel it will be one of BC's under the radar gems that he seems to unearth from time to time.

This is the same Kleiza that the Nuggets considered almost untouchable, refusing to trade him for Artest. He is still only 25, has the size to be play the 3/4, and just came off a season leading his Olympiakos team to the Eurobasket finals.

I've been watching him at these Worlds, and if you Raps fans have as well, then you can see that we have ourselves a stud. He is showing off so many facets of his game: defense, slashing, shooting and a polished post game.

These Worlds are our look into what Kleiza has blossomed into, the best player on his contending Lithuanian national team who has the power to take over any game on any given night. For those that have labeled him as strictly a 3 point shooter, are just plain ignorant.

Kleiza led his team to a bronze medal in the 2010 FIBA World Championship, averaging 19.0 ppg, 7.1 rpg and 1.4 apg. He was chosen in the All-Tournament team.

I am excited to see what he will bring to our team this upcoming season and think he will be an integral part of our future.

So far in pre season, the first game he had 20 pts and 5 boards on stellar shooting %s. The game came easy to him and nothing was forced. Kleiza showed he can not only shoot spot up 3s, but coming hard off screens, and from mid-range. It is evident he possesses a complete offensive game.

He brings everything we currently need this year; toughness, savvy, shooting, a post-presence, leadership, size and hunger. This will be his year to prove himself to the NBA that he is here to stay in a big fashion, and I'm glad it is with the Raptors.

His impact will be JJ's 2009/2010 impact and contract for us, nothing less, possibly more.

I'm sorry but I don't think you've been watching these worlds... he has been shooting 61% from 2pt, and 43% from 3.

He is most certainly not chucking with those numbers, infact I remember he touched the ball about 2 times the whole 3rd quarter against Spain.

I am ok with Both Kleiza and Bargnani leading our offensive (until Demar is ready to carry a bigger role the following season). Kleiza had already shown his worth/talent/skills way before this worlds WAY before

Our only concerns should be Sonny Weems on his contract year volume-shooting instead of strictly focusing on locking people down.

Warning for trolling/derailing this thread.

To be honest, he is no franchise player. Both are role players, one might be a "good" role player and the other might be a "decent" role player.
Neither would be a top 3 option on a championship team.

Dear andreafan........don't take this personally but Bargs should be a 2nd or 3rd option on a very good team. I think highly of Bargs abilities and feel that he will be a leader on this team and the top player. But Klieza is a highly skilled player who will offer dynamics that Turk didn't offer last year. He will also help on the glass where Bargs has exhibited a weakness. This is a team sport ans I don't want another one man offense we had with Bosh. We picked up 2 players during the off season who can contribute in both Klieza and Barbosa.DD or Weems hopefully will improve dramatically this year hopefully both. Amir doesn't require the ball to be effective he is a David Lee type of player with defense.

Our major concern is the log jam at PG with 4 capable players to degrees.
In many respects I would be happy to see both Jack and Jose gone.
Rather see Barbosa, Banks, Brown ( killer Bee's) Barbosa would bring energy, Banks from the limited view last year defense plus it is his contract year and Brown from what he showed in Summer League is worth the risk. ( he is a prototypical PG )

I'm still perplexed with where this team will finish they have the ability to surprise dramatically ( playoff ) or crash as one of the 3 to 5 worst teams in the NBA.

I was very pleased with the signing too. Just read he iced the game against Spain, very nice.

Hopefully somebody will post a link to the game highlights some time later.
