OT: Arenas rumour?

Saw this on the weekly dime on espn.

Outside of Orlando's flirtations, I can only claim to have heard what are best described as "rumbles of curiosity" from the suddenly starless Toronto Raptors. Wouldn't describe it as anything more serious than that, especially when the $14.5 million salary-cap exception that the Raptors created in a sign-and-trade with Miami when Chris Bosh bolted isn't big enough to absorb Arenas' salary-cap number this season. Or when Canada's strict gun laws could well make acquiring Arenas, after a felony conviction, rather complicated even if the Raps were game.

Even though Arenas to the Raptors would be a terrible idea and Colangelo would need to be axed immediately if he did it, and it would cut down on the team's development + create, here's a possible scenario that might entertain a few:

TPE+Barbosa for Arenas.

if we're going for waning point guards I'd rather get Nash

Me no want, he would hurt Demar's development.

I don't think you can combine a player with the TPE.

Won't work as players can't be combined with TPE's. And Jose has to be going the other way if Arenas is coming to Toronto.

I'd do it, only if he'd be interested in coming here. Arenas is better than any player we have right now, or any player that we will have within 3 years.

No to Arenas...

but what happens if a professional athlete wants to play in Canada when they have a prior conviction???

If (and this if being a .00000001% chance of happening) Colangelo would need to do the following:

1. Trade Calderon + Evans + Filler acquire Arenas
2. Use TPE to pick up defensive minded low post threat like Josh Smith to balance things out....
3. Get into the 1st round and be ousted by MIami, Boston, Orlando
4. Ruin our future for the next 3-4 years

Get'er dun BC!

If we're sittin anywhere from 7th to 10th in the East in January with a realistic shot at making the playoffs, you have to consider it right? Right?

Arenas for Jose, Banks, and Julian Wright works..

Arenas/Jack
DD/Barbosa/Weems
Kleiza/Weems
Evans/Amir/Ed
Bargs/Aussie

You HAVE to, right?

Not a chance. Arenas isn't coming here.

But, on another note, I believe Jarrett Jack will be traded at some point this season. If, for nothing else, than to give another PG a trial run at the position. Are there any backup PGs that you can think of, that may be worth a look? Anybody in the D-League?

The Arenas fan inside of me says yes.

But the Raptors fan inside of me says hell no.

We need to build this team properly with a young talented point guard. And it would be tough to take on his contract. This isn't the time to bring in Gilbert, but I hope he finds a place to resurrect his career.

We are not paying the tax for Arenas ... and why would BC decide to bring in a personality like Arenas at this stage?

Toronto would be doing Washington a huge favor if they took Arenas and his nasty contract off their hands, so the Wizards would need to throw in at least a few picks to make it worthwhile.

FWIW, Gilbert Arenas loves burgers from Harvey's.

Bush Jr had no problem crossing the boarder with this conviction.

Arenas in Toronto? Why the hell not. It's not like things can get any worst.

Actually, they would get way, way worse. I don't think you understand that this season isn't miserable for us and will end in ruin for the franchise. We have some good pieces and a decent core we can build around, and a high pick coming. Let's not ruin it with Arenas.

I would only get involved if we could get a third team involved, along with our TPE and some sort of Banks, Jose, Evans, J Wright, JJ going the other way with someone serviceable (hopefully a C or PG) and one or two 1st rounders.

Otherwise, no thanks.
