The case for race: a serious discussion

Post#1 » by mellymel » Mon Apr 11, 2011 5:52 pm

Now I really do not want to come off sounding as a racist, but there is one fact that this season has shown basketball fans across the world that needs to be addressed, specifically for the Toronto Raptors fanbase.

Is it a coincidence that the Toronto Raptors have been playing winning basketball when all 5 starters being put onto the court are black? These past few games without Jose and Andrea have been enjoyable to watch and we are actually winning! Im all in favour of us getting the highest pick in the draft for next year, and so obviously winning games decreases our chances of getting that good pick, but what I'm saying is, ever since our starting 5 got 'darker', we've been playing real basketball, and winning games too.

I wanted to see what other Raptors fans supported this idea. Screw all the talk of "you're a racist!", when the fact of the matter is, over 80% of the entire league is African-American... Why the hell would our "#1 scoring option", and our "#1 passer, with the lowest assist to turnover ratio (**the least important stat. of all time btw when your team loses every game!**) be white players, when the majority of the players in the NBA are not??

If BC drafts another white player, or brings another high-paid one in through free agency (ala Turkoglu styles), I will officially stop following the raptors. Yes, if we drafted Jimmer Fredette in the first round, I would stop following the raptors permanently, and I bet there are many others out there that think like this too. Call it a racist mentality, but the whole world is made up of stereotypes, and this one is just flat-out true.... African-American players are the only ones that know how to ball night in a night out. Sure there are a few exception (and by no means is Andrea an exception) but the amount of good white players in the nba is so scarce that the Raptors need to realize that it's time to move on from this "white man THINKS he can jump" team philosophy.

We need to build around Ed Davis and Demar DeRozan because they're young, athletic, and won't fall off the map within the next 3 years... nobody can say that with confidence about Andrea.. why? B/c he's a 7 foot player that can't compete physically with African-American's.

Ever play basketball with a group of strangers and feel like you never get the ball and just chill in the corner waiting for a pass? That's Andrea.. but when it comes to defense and rebounding! Its almost as if he's afraid to bang with the rest of 'em down low... Forget "almost as if"... he flat out IS too afraid to get physical.

Dirk, Gasol, Ginobili, Nash, Love <--Those are the only good white players in the nba, everyone else is a scrub, literally. "Hey what about jason kidd mellymel?" Jason kidd is not white, and neither is Blake Griffin, which is why they both weren't put on the starting 5. I'm sure people are going to contest the $*&% out of me, but I bet you that every other white player that someone names is nothing more than a role player, like Shane Battier (whom isn't even fully white anyways!!)

Get rid of all the white boys, and we will be getting rid of a losing culture that relies on chucking up useless jump shots, and being out-rebounded by opponents, guaranteed.
