-Andrea Bargnani, 25 years old, a Roman in the NBA. How do you feel coming back home from the Hollywood of Basketball to Rome for holydays.
-Well, It’s always strange getting back after 7-8 months, this year sadly only 7, maybe less. It’s always a nice emotion, it’s like living two separate lives.
-What do you miss more about Toronto now that you’re in Italy?
-Right now I don’t miss anything about Toronto, I’ve been there a lot and the last snowfall was in April, I called my friends in Rome and they were already going to the beach, so right now I don’t miss anything. But I like Toronto very much, I live well in there, I really can’t complain
-What do they say about Italy in America, how do they see us right now?
-What do you think, how can they see us right now? (laugh)
-We have an idea about it (laugh). Well, at least tell us a joke about Italy you heard there
-Well, in the last period they talked about scandals, bunga bunga and such
-They asked you about bunga bunga?
-No, I pretend to be Canadian or Serbian when they talk about it (laugh)
-NBA is also a catwalk for celebrities that come to watch games. There’s someone in particular you want to talk about, someone that you met?
-Los Angeles is full of them, like Jack Nicholson. I saw a lot of celebrities, Maroon 5, Eddie Murphy, really a lot
-How’s your usual week
-It depends, there’s week were you only play, eat, and sleep. The game end and you take the plane.
-How long do you think to play in the NBA.
-Until I’ll be able to do it. (silence) . Sad answer? (Laugh)
-Which is the most likeable team. And the most arrogant?
-The most arrogant in the last four years have been the Celtics, for sure. But now with Miami is a nice competition for being the worst. The most likeable… I don’t know, but It’s funny to play in LA.
-Is there a compliment you received that pleased you most?
-Probably the one that Bryant made to me when we won in LA, I met him in the tunnel, he speaks Italian way better than me (laugh), without accent (laugh), he said I played well and I had to keep getting better…. And since there I never defeated him anymore (laugh)
-Why someone should be supporting the raptors?
-Why? For a lot of reasons! And now I’m going to enumerate (laugh)… well, if you are Italian, because I play there
- and that’s a good reason
-then… well, now it’s hard after a year like this one… then we’re Canadian team… I really don’t know why they should support us (laugh). But the jersey is really beautiful. When I’m in the locker room and I put it on, I see me in the mirror and I think “Well, we’re going to lose today, but we’re damn cool” (laugh) Especially with the black one.
- This has been a strange season for you. You have been one of the best scorer in the best league in the world, but Toronto didn’t get to the playoff.
-It’s been an hard season, losing so many games is frustrating, It never happened to me before. At some point we lost 13 in a row. It’s been really hard mentally, but I’ll keep the good things, I get better as a player and It will help me in the future, and I hope that in the future the whole group will get better.
-We made a test to see if you’re still Roman or if you became an American. First question, “bucatini all’amatriciana” or T-bone steak
-I’d say bucatini, but we’re out of season, I can’t eat them, I’ll became 130kg if I eat them everyday, so maybe T-bone steak is better (Laugh)
-Festival di Sanremo or MTV Awards?
-Mtv Awards. Sanremo is unwatchable.
-So you’re not the usual Italian overseas that watch the festival?
-No no, I never watched it, and I started to hate him after I heard the song of Emanuele Filiberto (descendant of the Italian royal family) (laug). That has been the carrer low of the festival (laugh)
-Wo do you choose between Carlo Verdone (roman actor) and Jim Carrey
-Verdone, obviously, against anyone. It’s also a friend of mine, I really enjoy his movies.
-Who’s your favourite Verdone’s Character?
-The Professor
-Jessica Alba or Monica Bellucci?
-I never saw Monica Bellucci in person, and jessica alba is in toronto watching the game sometimes... but I’d say Monica Bellucci because she seems taller, Jessica Alba is really tiny.
-Do you have a Canadian or American Girlfirend?
-Eh? (laugh) No. (Silence) No! (laugh)… I say yes, if you want (laugh)
-let’s talk about the NT at first. This team is full of talent, but maybe it accomplished less than expected
-It didn’t accomplish anything! After the silver at Olympics there was a rebuilding, everyone was expecting a lot since the beginning, I remember newswriters predicting golds and silvers… But Europe is really challenging, is a different game from the NBA, different plays, different space, you need to get used to it.
-Can you see us in London 2012. Can we do it?
-It depends… doing what? (Laugh) It’s hard, we have to finish in the first three place, and the European Championship is harder than Olympics, all the teams are good. We’ll try, but it’s not what we’re think about right now, especially after the crappy results we get until today.
(talks about soccer)
-What trip do you still have to do?
-I like the sea, so I’d like to go to Maldive. I never been there, because I’m scared by the plane landing on the water.
-Really?
-Yeah, really. But I’d really like it… but I’ll never do it (sad look)
-We’d like to ask you a double regards, one in English and one in Roman.
-(the english one)Thanks for watching me, It’s been a great pleasure, keep cheering for me and Toronto is gonna kill next year so… let’s keep it up!
-And in roman?
-Beeellaaaaaaa!
(laugh)
