Alright, well, we are kinda failing worse than a plastic chair under Oprah at the moment... but I wanted to take a look at some of the bright spots.. or at least what I saw to be positives.

I noticed in the game against the blazers that the lineup with Aaron Gray in it did quite well on the defense and offense. Although this may be due to the blazers introducing their scrub 2nd string, I think it was also very relevant that Aaron Gray played his role phenomenally.

During the season, we have seen low post guys getting out to the high screen on offense, and completely failing at laying down a solid pick. Aaron Gray planted very well on the pick and even though he got called for a foul, at least it sent the right message. This year it has been a constant struggle for our team to set the high screen and roll without getting a moving pick violation. Aaron Gray may have turned the ball over with the play for fouling... but he sent the man flying, and that is the only excusable way to give the foul... a pansy slide of the feet and the guy get bumped is absolutely useless... you need to send that guy to the floor and make him pay for hitting you... make him think twice about you.. so next time down the floor, he doesn't want to run into you again. Aaron Gray set up our offense amazingly, imho, and deserves some well-earned praise for his playmaking ability, without having the ball.

Also, he played well on defense... although I think his rebounding was a little off, there were some in there he could have scrapped a little harder for.

Either way, other raptors need to look at Aaron Gray for how to set a pick... it was absolutely done right, to the tee.

He is the first if our bigs to set good screens. He's only getting whistled because they have tightened things up a lot this year so those little tricks like moving your shoulder won't fly.

He gets to the spot quick and gets tight to the man and doesn't roll early like Ed and Amir. I won't even talk about Jamaal.

That was a terribly set pick. I know people are so desperate for the Raps to shake their soft image that they will reach for anything but that is getting out of hand.

It is not 100 percent grey's fault as the ball carrier needs to wait foe it to be set and make it so the pick setter can stay still.

What Grey did was set the screen way too late. He was out of position and when the opponent went by him he needed to stick his hip out to make contact. Worst of all he got caught. Nothing wrong with a little extra on a pick if you dont get caught but he did it on a high screen out near the 3 where everyone in the areana could see it.

I think his point is that he acknowledges that Gray got caught but that instead of doing a ticky tack foul he went gorilla and made the foul count.

Hes really the only guy on our team that doesnt try to slip the screen.

Ahhh....the moving screen. Another one of the most poorly reffed elements of NBA basketball.

Certain teams get away with a ton of them & certain teams don't.

Funny how Perkins and Baby can't get away with it anymore.

Just as big a problem is that our guys dont know how to use a screen. Often times our pgs will leave too early before a screen has time to set.

Yeah, Boston was the first team that came to mind. It seems like another one of those "reputation" things. If you're known as a "tough" defensive team, then the refs tend to turn away.

The problem is when other teams try to do things properly, but notice a team like Boston is getting away with not doing things legally, then everyone tries to cheat.

I know when Triano was here, he started trying to get guys to "cheat" more & let the refs blow their whistle if they decided to. Didn't work out too well for us though.

It would be interesting to know if these players notice the difference when they move on to another team. Especially if they move from a team like Boston to a cellar dweller.

This team is so bad it makes Aaron Gray look beast at setting screens.

Funny when your talked about, the topic is setting screens. Oddly enough, personally I believe Gray is the best true 5 on the roster.

Gray is a big body and naturally brings a level of physicality at the 5. Magloire just simply has no jump to his legs left.

He did a good job on LA when he guarded him on the post and he seems to have a good idea on how to pass for a big man.

Now hes simply a bench 5, but he could turn out to be acceptable on backup minutes.

It doesn't matter if they're good or bad picks, he already looked better than I thought. He wasn't as stiff as I thought, maybe it's because he trimmed down so much in the offseason. It's even better that's what we've seen right after his come back from surgery, and I fully expect he'll improve over time.

This guy will only help us to set our next draft pick.
