A person familiar with the deal says the purchase price is $338 million. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the financial terms have not been announced.

Forbes rated the team at $285 million in January, the NBA did well if this goes through.

Good news for New Orleans.

Does the extra 53 million cover buying the draft rights to Anthony Davis?

The draft is RIGGED in favour New Orleans!

I'll be the first one to call it!

But only if you promise not to bring up this thread if someone else wins it

Whoever wins the lottery you can make a good conspiracy theory as to why it was obvious that they were going to win it.

As for Hornets, with a good draft pick this year and next they should be ok for a few years.

It's good that they're staying in New Orleans. 53 million for Anthony Davis? MJ bid wayy more than that. Probably comes with the 2nd pick

Great News for the Conspiracy draft guys, Anthony Davis on the hornets would make the team a lot more valuable.

Then you add that kings want to relocate that is another big plus for the Raptors.

With the Cavs and Wizards with future star first over all picks in Irving and Wall, it leaves Raptors, Nets and Bobcats in the running for the first overall pick

Thats interesting, just wondering if any NBA team has won a draft lottery twice in a span of 6 years or less?

Orlando won it two in a row with both Shaq and Webber, didn't they?

They ended up trading Webber on draft day for Penny and more picks.

But that was with different lottery rules.

The raptors have to be a more valuable team then the hornets, does anyone know much of that 1.4 billion Rogers and Bell paid for the MLSE was for the raptors?

Look on the bright side, Hornets is in the west so I'd much rather avoid having Eastern team like the Lolcats getting davis.

So the NBA bought the, for $300 sell it for $338 .. So $1 million each to each team and Stern takes his $9 million "legal consulting" fee.

Looks like the Saints owner who bought the team wants to change the name ASAP!

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/tom-benson-orleans-hornets-owner-change-team-name-224908070.html;_ylt=AjFc.XZz3kXFRAp8pEF9aFe8vLYF

Benson said he is also trying to change the name of the NBA team to better fit the ambiance, culture and charm of New Orleans. "We need to find a name like (Jazz)," Benson said, referring to New Orleans first NBA team that relocated to Salt Lake City in 1979. "Whether we can get that or let us use that, you've got to know we're working on it. We'd like to change it tomorrow. We have not gotten that approved, but we're not letting up on it, either. Because we've got a good relationship with the commissioner and his people and we're going to be on them daily to do something."

I wish this would happen for the Raptors. With Rogers and Bell coming in I wonder if they have that kinda pull

I was thinking it is either this, or yet another billionaire grey old, lost his marbles and was manipulated into some foolish decision by those close to him.

New Orleans? Really? You want to keep the team in New Orleans? Man, there are several much better options, but whatever. At least someone with deep pockets bought them. I guess Gordon is the big winner. He can take that max deal to the bank now.

I love the idea of them buying the Jazz name back from Utah.

As for the Raptors changing their name... to what? Huskies?
