Hassan Whiteside...

Post#1 » by TheExpat » Tue Jul 15, 2014 8:02 am

What do you guys think of his summer league performance so far?

To me, he's looked a lot better than Nogueira... a lot better.

Ugh... you gotta have arms longer than Caboclo's to make that kind of reach.

He does...caboclo, according to Masai has a 7' 6.5" wingspan, Whiteside 7' 7" :D

Just watched Game 3. Whiteside looks like an NBAer out there. A back-up, but still someone who can assert their will on a situation. I keep waiting for Lucas to do something positive beyond setting screens. He showed a bit of "dreamshake" before clanking it. Does he really have post moves? It would be helpful if our guards could dump the ball into him a couple more times.

I like Lucas' attitude, I like his hair, and I like his relationship with Bruno. But he's gotta show something more.

i think he would be a good guy to have on the roster unless MU has a free agent in mind already. good size, and decent rebounding/defensive presence. i wouldn't exact Whiteside to contribute much (if anything) to the offense, but would be a good 4th big on this squad

To be frank, Whiteside = 25, Lucas = turns 22 July 26th. For a big man, Lucas should be probably treated similarly to Bruno (although he's a bit more seasoned with his overseas experience), as a raw project.

If you listen to Lucas post-game interview, he clearly stated that he's just getting back into gameshape/quite rusty because of his time off due to his issues with swollen knees/tendinitis.

I havent watched game 3 yet, but in game 1 and 2 he didnt look good at all. Some people dont understand basketball and are poor at assessing talent. You cant go off box score, especially during a summer league game. Bebe is definitely a better prospect than Whiteside, and I say can contribute better to an NBA team now, not a summer league system.

I don't see how you could be impressed by anybody on this summer league squad. The footage from yesterday's game should be locked In a safe and thrown in the ocean. That's how bad it was.

Hassan Whiteside has looked just as awful as everybody else on the team.

Yeah but to be frank, we need a backup C as we try to compete.

Hm.. don't think you've seen my post history in regards to Whiteside...I've practically vouched for him to be selected as the primary backup C since he was announced on the SL roster.

Moreover, not sure what this has to do with my post as I am merely responding about Lucas

exactly what i was going to post, also didnt watch game 3 but Hassan was doing some weak stuff in game 1 and 2. Setting some illegal screens and throwing up some wild shots. Like you said , i think ppl here just see his rebounding number and such and get all hyped

Was a huge Whiteside fan his draft year and was hoping that the Raptors would draft him in the 1st round. He slipped into the second and SAC got him whether it was the SAC system or likely he just wasn't good enough he never really got a sniff of the NBA.

He is showing in summer league why he didn't get a sniff he is a homeless mans Biyombo who is poor mans Chandler.
Blatche could be a key player for the Raptors rather than a laughing stock Whiteside is.
Still pissed Masai didn't take Bachynski on SL team than this travesty to basketball.

Sounds like whiteside has been a horrible player on the summer league maybe not the type of player you'd want for defensive purposes or rebounding and shot blocker.

Can you cite the differences between the 2 players and why you think nogueira is a better player? I'm looking at the box score and it shows that on the 2nd game whiteside was a DNP, did he play or not play the second game?
Masai's to do list

Glad to see some people know basketball so much that they were able to assess his game 2 performance even though he didn't step foot on the court.

There's some legit reason to be intrigued. He's shown some ability to rebound, block shots without fouling and looks to have above average shooting touch for a big man. I'm hoping he gets some more opportunities to defend the post against some like-size big men, as we haven't see much of that.

I'd like to see him work to get position with his feet more and he's got a ton to learn about the nuances of the game. He's probably too raw for this team purposes but likely worth a training camp invite.

Lol.. He didn't play it was on a back to back. Apparently some people don't know how to judge and observe nba talent, yeah, it's pretty hard when they're invisible.

Whiteside had one mediocre game and one good game, this isn't very different from most of the prospects thus far. Wiggins had a bad offensive game, Parker has had two, hood had a terrible performance and a great one (same for Harris), Vonleh has been a no show, Hairston chucking.. So you tell me.. We're now concluding these guys entire upcoming season off a couple of quickly put together summer league games based off mismatched rosters and a few set plays you run over and over?

Apply the same thing as Bruno to every other player, you're looking for signs of their future potential, not to dominate every time out.. Which is pretty damn hard considering the all around talent level when compared to the Nathan Jawai summer league days.

If Aaron Gray can land a contract or two because he is big theres no reason this guy cant!

I mean he is still relatively young, athletic for a big and is just very big. He isn't going to contribute much beyond his 6 fouls at this point.

I would rather see the team go for him than a stone/byucks type for the last spot. Let him be a different type of look for val to practice against and see if he can carve out a role as a big body who rebounds and take up space. His length can really provide some trouble on d if he can learn to stand/go straight up. At this point, watching him just shows how little fundamental teaching/learning that has occurred.
