A RealGM History: DeMar DeRozan - Parts One & Two

Let me take you down memory lane and reflect on the career of DeMar DeRozan, as seen through the eyes of RealGM posters...(Part Two on Page 2)

Sunday, March 15th, 2009 - Doug Smith Foreshadowing
Thread Title: Smith: Raps will have a new starting SG next year!!

Lionel Messi wrote:I really hope it isn't Carlos Delfino.

That would be disappointing.

James Harden would be ideal obviously, or Willie Warren.

Rapsobsessed7 wrote:if worst comes to worst we stay at 7/8 i worked out this deal that works under the CBA to get ben gordon via sign and trade.

That's my hope too.

A new shooting guard was coming, but his identity had not yet been revealed.

Thursday, May 14th, 2009 - Ric Bucher's Prediction

polo007 wrote:ESPN NBA analyst Ric Bucher was interviewed today on The Bill Watters Show on AM640.

Here is what he had to say regarding Chris Bosh's future in Toronto.

NBA sources have told Ric Bucher that:

- The Toronto Raptors have either made or will make Chris Bosh a presumptuous contract offer this summer. It is basically a take it or leave it contract proposal. If Chris Bosh rejects the Raptors long-term contract extension offer (99% chance of occurring) this summer, he will definitely get traded this summer.

As we all know, Ric Bucher is always right when it comes to Chris Bosh getting traded.

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 - NBA Draft Lottery

Raptors fans were disappointed to learn they had not won a Top 3 Pick

The Notic wrote:griffin is overrated anyways. he's not even a better prospect than beasley.

After the dust had settled, mock drafts began flooding the forum.

9. Earl Clark

9. Tyreke Evans

yeehamasai wrote:raptors will take ty lawson

9. Brandon Jennings

Troubadour wrote:I don't know enough about this draft class to give you an opinion, but I will say after looking at Tyreke Evans on youtube, he looks great. I'd be happy if we got him at nine. Of course, DeRozan or Harden would be better, but Evans would be great, too.

And there it was...the first mock draft that featured the future All-Star, DeMar DeRozan

LieCheatSteal wrote:1) Griffin
2) Rubio
3) Jennings
4) Harden
5) Clark
6) Evans
7) Holiday
8) Curry
9) Der Rozen
10) Mullens

In a few short days, a subculture on the Raptors board emerged.

Terrence Williams

i'm starting to become a fan already

At first, he was viewed as a project

I will only consider him with a second first rounder. Danny Green could be had either in the late first round or possibly with a second round pick.

But within that same thread, he became the future

I'd take Williams at 9 and try and grab any of Lawson, Holiday or Teague. The pg's are fairly deep, so there's a better chance they'd be available later in the first round.

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 - Chad Ford Chat Wrap

Zach(Toronto): Could Derozan bring back some Vinsanity for the Raptors ?

Chad Ford: That's his upside. If he's there, it would be hard for the Raptors to pass. Ditto for Tyreke Eavsn.

Yes, Derozan and Tyreke Eavsn would be hard to pass on for the Toronto Raptors....but RealGM would not let Chad Ford slander our beloved Terrence Williams

Smitty (DC): Every year there's a guy ranked in the teens a month before the draft that ends up going top 8. Is Terrence Williams that guy?

Chad Ford: Talent wise ... yes. He's the guy. Background check wise ... I don't think so. I think teams are a little scared off.

Seems like shady journalism to me to keep making this "off court issues" statement with no specifics, and no other references to specifics in any other sources... including DX's considerable coverage on him - they make one passing reference to potential Off court issues...

Perhaps we were preparing ourselves for the eventual pick to come off the board too soon

mcleex wrote:Derozan will not be there at 9.
He'll be gone by 7

But some people just really loved Terrence Williams

Does anyone else think BC is going to try to recreate his "Marion" success with T-Will?

T-Will is the SG clone of Marion...amazing athelete, passer, playmaker, rebounder, defender...in terms of shooting not so much. But Still. a guy who I think will be the best rebounding and defensive SG in the league in 4 years.

Thursday, May 28th, 2009 - NBA Draft Combine

Before the event even began, posters were registering their support for Terrence Williams

Yeah Blair is a true bruiser, but I'd still take TWill.

As more information became public, the chances of getting DeRozan seemed slimmer

Draft Express
• No Competitive Workouts for DeRozan

DeMar DeRozan will not be conducting any competitive workouts, his agent Aaron Goodwin tells us. The rumor mill indicated that he was only interested in going up against James Harden, except for in Toronto, where he was slated to face off with Gerald Henderson. Goodwin says that is not the case.

“DeRozan is not working out with anyone. He isn’t going up against Gerald Henderson or anyone else at this point. He may not even go to Toronto. He won’t fall to 9.”

This turn of events caused posters to predict he had received a promise from a team. Was it the Minnesota Timberwolves or was it our Toronto Raptors? Find out in Part II of my RealGM History: DeMar DeRozan

You can do the same thing for Val and Ross too. Point is, when you have bad drafting years, your good picks in the following years are always met with skepticism until the player proves himself in the NBA.

And this is why you don't listen to RealGM for draft speculation. Yeah some guys will get it right but most are absolutely clueless as it should be since we aren't the ones making the actual decisions. Terrence Williams had potential but was far from a sure thing.

We also had some bad reactions to both JV and T Ross but now both are shaping up to be good players.

Looks like another building thread around a premise player A is better than player B made vaguely years ago. Seems self indulgent. Why dont people make the threads they know they were wrong in? My first post was advocating playing Linton Johnson.

No links. Random quotes from random threads.

Wanted Jennings or Harden in that draft. U won't believe this but, a few days before the draft: I had a dream that I was in the ACC for playoffs and someone wearing #10 hit a corner three (or long two lol) to send the crowd into hysteria.

10 is my favourite sports number so either it's a strange creation of my subconscious or I'm some kind of oracle.

I don't get mad until I know enough. I was sure it was going to be Drummond so I was shocked. Did some research and liked the tools Ross had and wanted to see what he would do.

Val I was very happy. I was annoyed I would have to wait a year but the payoff was definitely worth it.

I hate reactionary popsts without any context. People were mad we didn't grab Biyombo and I was left head scratching when there was nothing to his game except size. Bruno at least can play the game. Not saying he will be something but at 20 I will take that risk.

At the top, click my posts. then go back to the last page. Its tough to find exact posts though (because obviously it goes by date), and sometimes it gives you an error msg.

Like heres a thread by the OP about a master list of coaches from 08. One of my first few posts on this board, I was still a jerk then too, hah sorry Troubadour.
