ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Rochester RazorSharks basketball team is in talks with the NBA's Toronto Raptors, according to sources within the RazorSharks front office, who said the Raptors are looking for a NBA Developmental League affiliate.
The Raptors are coming off of a successful season, having won the Atlantic Division for the 2013-2014 season.

The RazorSharks were champions of the Premier Basketball League last season.

This is probably the best we could have hoped for outside of the NBADL affiliate being in Canada. Definitely within easy driving distance for NBATV Canada to cover more.

I assume we'll be the sole affiliate and that the NBADL will take them in.

The one rule I don't like about the D-League is that the players are available for any team to pick up (unless they are on the NBA roster).

I know not every team has their own D-league team, but lets say you do have one, and want to give a player a shot on your d-leauge team. The player turns out to be really good, but since he wasn't signed to an NBA contract, then sent down, he can be called up by anyone.

I've felt this way before too. However from an NBA hopeful's perspective, if you are going to be buried as an exclusive product of one organization (making crap money), I'm taking my talent to China or more remote places because at least I'll be auditioning for 30 NBA clubs that way, instead of just one.

Nice find. Would be a nice move, despite the general limitations of the D-league.

Since this team is from the premier basketball league, I presume the arrangement has to include not just a deal with the Raps but also moving the Rochester team into the d-league.

I like the idea of creating a greater connection to the Raps in western NY. smart move.

Fantastic venue. Rochester is a great city for this type of an avenue - WNYers love their sports. Too bad the Toronto to Rochester ferry never panned out.

This appears to be the plan for all area teams. The Jays are now linked to Buffalo and it is possible that the plan for Bills, should the Bon Jovi group win out is to, at least in the short-term, link the Argos to the Bills developmentally.

I've been waiting for this to happen. Raptors needed their own developmental team where they can place their young players to develop in THEIR system. Having the team so close to Toronto is even better as it'll give the players the ability to still live in Toronto if they choose too, as well as it gives the fans a chance to go see more professional games. It would be better if the team was in Ontario but I figure, one step at a time.

Are there trades in the D League? If not, maybe that is what's needed. That way if another team wants a guy on our exclusive D League roster they can trade for him

This can't really work until all teams have DLeague affiliates. Teams wont want to trade a player they share with another so that other team can sign someone. Though it is looking like we are heading to all teams having an affiliate, hopefully it will be done in the next year or 2

I hope we can get a permanent affiliation with this club, it'll make it easier for our players to develop and give Ujiri the chance to watch over their development first hand.

Not a huge fan of the D league in that the Raptors would have very little control on players other than there own.

I feel a better solution would to buy a team in Spain or France.
If that were the case we could sign Bruno, Bebe and Daniels to the team and still retain the rights giving them ample playing time. It also prevents other teams from getting interested. We could also bring in young European, African and Latin American players see there value.

Develop them in more NBA style with good coaching.

Just a thought.

if you own the dleague team then you have total control, from gm to coach. Some teams have a hybrid ownership, by that i mean the ownership/business decisions are made by 3rd party, all player related moves are made by nba team.

I rather have nbadl team, just for the proximity for call-ups and such.

They had them in an older version. My first time playing 2k maybe 2k12 i went undrafted and played for the d league then became a starter for the magic on a callup.
