Terrence Ross a key player for the Toronto Raptors after turning his season around

When the Raptors inked inconsistent swingman Terrence Ross to a lucrative extension back in November, Masai Ujiri was the first to admit that there was some risk involved.

The team was betting on upward potential and that, with time, Ross would become a more reliable contributor.

The early returns were more than a little dicey.

November would be the worst month of the Portland native’s NBA career, with only February of his rookie season really being close in terms of awfulness. Ross averaged a paltry 3.6 points per game on .267 shooting, playing just 16.7 minutes a night. He was a non-factor and the extension was looking like a big mistake.

It's hard to believe that after how much hate Ross got earlier in the season, we're probably gonna look at his splits at the end of the year..

..and say that "he had a pretty good year overall, except for November."

His jumpers off dribble have been money as of late.

Some people call him a key player, I call it a hot streak.

Move him for value while you have the chance. When he starts sucking again, we're going to be stuck with that contract.

Not to mention that with DeRozan getting maxed out this summer, we have little need for a backup SG making $11M per.

I was really hard on him these last two years, and I'll be the first to admit that he has become an exceptional player off of the bench for us. He still seems a it of an over payment, but not enough for me to worry about it. He is producing well enough with 2pat and Lowry lineups.

For someone who likes to avoid all type of contact, he has that floater in the lane thing going.

Three's are very valuable in this league and he can hit them. There will always be a market for him because of this.

subtract november and he's shooting over 47% from the field and over 40% from 3.

and he's not a backup sg...he's a backup wing (2 positions) and can start at the 3 if folks are injured. $11M per starts next year when that translates to about $6-7 mil per in this year's cap.

we HAVE A NEED for bench scoring. he fits the bill.

I've come to the conclusion it's not so much about contact as it is he can't hit layups

His DFG differential has been great all year too, so the D has been there.

I think he will probably have another prolonged slump in there too, as most shooters do, but it shouldnt be this "inconsistent" moniker, so much as its a function of being a predominant 3PT volume shooter. He is, and will always be valuable when hes not making 3s as it creates space for the creators/drivers on the floor (DD/KL/CoJo).

The fact that hes added little elements only serve as extra bonuses.

Needs to become a better passer but his off the dribble game is nice and he's becoming a reliable 3 point shooter.

Defense is inconsistent but with age and more experience should get better

Kyle Lowry?

Ross is a slightly above average defender but Kyle is definitely more effective than him... I trust Carroll and Cojo more on wing defense too. Bismack is also a good defensive big.

TRoss is probably our 5th or 6th best defender (Bebe, JJ, Val, and 2pat are average/above average defenders too)

I should have said best all-around defender...

Opponent Fg% against Ross
Overall -5.2%
3 pointers -2.7%
2 pointers -6.2%
less than 6ft -3.6%
less than 10ft -6.5%
greater than 15ft -2.4%

I don't think there is one person on this team that defends all ranges like that. The fact that he does that defensively and now is also contributing on offense is very impressive. If he keeps it up that contract will easily be worth it.

Yo Ball Boy, when you post a story, you have to post major parts of the story, for instance, the light at the end of the tunnel....rookie

Lol. This is what always happens when a player that we wanted to move starts playing well - people starting caping for him.

I'll let the future speak for itself

Need to start adding an option to his catch and shoot on the horns where he turns around back door for the dunk, guys will start playing it really tight, we need to take advantage of it

ross should focus on his shot and keeping the defense honest with a few good drives a game. PLus being a good defender off the bench. He doesnt need to do too much (like passing), leave that to Kyle and Demar. So long as he can do those things, he will be a positive contributor.
