And Then There Was One: Thank Nation 2. Raps pick 23rd

On June 25, 2015 a trade was made by our beloved leader Masai! On this day he traded the one often referred to as Trashquez to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for 2 draft picks. The first was a 2nd round draft pick used on that fateful night to select the one now known as Normgod. The second was a 2017, lotto protected, first round pick from the LA Clippers. Well the time has come to collect.

And so we once again have what we in Raptors Land refer to as: Thank Nation.

This thread will be a space to keep track of where our two first round picks will fall(The Clippers pick and our own), as well as a place to discuss potential draft selections.

Brothers and sisters, all praise be to Masai...Now let's go!

My pick before NCAA season kicks off is Jaron Blossomgame. Senior SF, 6'7, 6'10 wingspan with a 41 inch vertical who shot 44% from 3 point range last year. Seems like the quintessential Masai guy if he's sticking with productive, older players.

If we can find a stretch 4 and a big 3+D SF that would be nice

1 more name that we should keep an eye on this year:

Isaiah Hartenstein.

6'11 power forward from Germany who was in Toronto for Basketball Without Borders this year.

As if I already didn't dislike the Clippers enough, rooting for them to lose 35-40 games (but not enough to lose the 8th seed) should be easy.

That's almost as good a name as Max Hooper

lol. I started a trade thread for teams with power forwards we might target and added Thank Nation 2 to it for the sake of space. But really, it won't work once we start talking about prospects in a few weeks. Have to correct my own mistakes sometimes.

yeah I'd love one of Anunoby/Blossomgame but I have a feeling Anunoby is going end of lottery

I think you may be disappointed. I expect Masai to keep looking for rookie contracts to fill out the bench like Norm, Poeltl, Siakam and maybe Delon at some point. Saves money for re-signing Lowry and rookies who make the rotation of winning teams likely have good value around the league.

I was considering mentioning Anunoby, but right now mocks have him in the late teens. Blossomgame is a senior and will likely fall to 20 or lower.

No more draft picks.

The NBA has this thing called a salary cap. You should look it up sometime.

Draft picks = cheap talent

Like the kind we get from Masai Ujiri drafts, such as.. ok, Norm Powell, but every other pick has been a question mark, at best.

Interesting factoid about Bob "Super Dave" Einstein: his brother is Hollywood's Albert Brooks, whose real name is Albert Einstein (probably a good career choice hah).

Especially true now that the cap has spiked considerably. The value of a player on a rookie contract is worth more than it's ever been.
