If we let Lowry go...what's our gameplan?

Post#1 » by Caboclo » Wed May 10, 2017 3:43 am

With all this talk of Lowry considering his options...and the heated debate over whether to hand him a 40M/5yr contract...perhaps its time think about what our options are without him.

re-sign Ibaka, Tucker, possibly ppat, keeping our core intact and setting ourselves up for probably a 40-45 win season and likely first round exit?

Let everyone walk and let DD become a 1-man show? (and get a late lottery pick)

Trade DD, develop our youth and rebuild with a top-5 pick?

Has Masai ever had a losing season?

The dude is so competitive, that I think he might try to do something to make the team competitive regardless. I don't know how, but he'd probably have to get rid of Carroll's contract, and renounce Patterson, Ibaka, and Tucker (maybe not all of them though) to get about 35 mil. in cap space.

You re-sign Patterson to tank, not to win.

I dunno if Ibaka and Tucker would re-sign here without Lowry. But I would re-sign them for sure try to get a decent PG (Hill/Rondo/Rudy?), two or three shooters with the draft and MLE and trade for Cory, and compete. Or maybe try Norm at the 1.

I think DeMar plays smarter now without Lowry, anyway. We just need some shooters and some plays.

The P-Patt ship has sailed, unless he was nursing an injury that wasn't publicized and will be healed next year.

I'd rather try to reload and go young. I'd rather be a team that takes a step-back but comes back stronger than a team that just keeps treadmilling. Being a team on the upswing is better than being the whipping boy in the East. Which I feel like we've become.

Sure but who on this list do you see coming here? Especially on a value contract

If Lowry leaves, Ibaka and Tucker are leaving. Patterson would probably be cheap to re-sign and we wouldn't have many other options.

That said, if you wanted to let all of the free agents walk, we'd have ~$20M in cap space without having to trade Carroll or Valanciunas. With that money, you could go get Jrue Holiday or hold on to your money or spend that on extensions for Bruno and Bebe.

I think you'd keep DeRozan, promote from within, and get a mid-1st round pick next season. Worst case scenario, your team is terrible and you get a high pick or you win too many games and you have to pick in the early 20s.

Max cap space this summer is pretty much pointless unless you think Gordon Hayward wants to play on a Raptors team with no Lowry or Ibaka.

I would definitely hand him a 40M/5yr contract. That is fair value for his playoff contributions as a Raptor. Anyone who thinks he is worth $40M PER YEAR is out to lunch. Has a screw loose. Is an opposing team's GM.

(I was going to write 'is an ECF GM', then realized that would include Masai,... then realized that this is sad, but likely true)

If Lowry leaves, you bring in Jrue Holiday. 26 years young, and is still due for that breakout.

Might be a great fit with Valanciunas, since Lowry and DeRozan had problems trusting Valanciunas.

What do you guys think about Jrue?

Trade Carroll somehow and sign George Hill or Jeff Teague along with whoever else.

If the team has a poor record by Christmas, blow it up.

I'll guess it's to become the Blazers after everyone but Lillard left... with Derozan instead of Lillard. Masai keeps trying to win, uses FA, hopes young players develop including a 2nd star like McCollum. I like the idea of signing another PG like Hill, Teague, etc.

Was just going to say party mills. Mills/demar/Tucker/ibaka is a good fit. Fill in the rest with shooters

Sad to say that if lowry leaves and we resign ibaka at 16 and tucker at 5. We are pretty much capped out with the first rounders cap hold. On that note I would like to see what delon has to contribute. I don't really like the point guard prospects at our draft position.
