Not sure if/when this works but :

To Memphis: Valanciunas, Randle, Bebe
To Toronto: Gasol, Clarkson
To LAL: Carroll TPE

This is quite a bit of salary for us to take on but I really like the overall talent this brings us. I would argue this team is better than Boston and would likely give the Cavs a serious run for their money.

Memphis would laugh Toronto off the phone. Seriously they get Jonas and Randle for Gasol that is bad value.

I don't think it's as bad as your making it seem.

There isn't a huge market for Gasol right now. The last team that could have made a serious play was Boston. Right now, the Cavs could potentially but other than that... there just aren't many teams around that have a need for Gasol at their current stage.

Gasol's rebounding numbers have also been steadily dipping and he's 33 mid way through next season.

I'm not knocking him.. I like him obviously which is why I proposed this trade but Memphis isn't winning anything any time soon. How long will it before they try to get a headstart on the rebuild?

Maybe we throw in a Powell for Daniels swap?

Yeah it is bad. Marc Gasol is in another group then Jonas V. Marc Gasol provides a team with better defense, shotblocking and rebounding and is still a very good scorer who has a developing three point shot and is a infinity better passer than Jonas.

I doubt Memphis would do that deal even with Powell I believe a team will servery overpay for Marc and give up a top 10 pick plus cap relief and a decent player. Teams like Houston/OKC/Boston/Milwaukee and even Washington could make a play for him. I am not going to try to make a deal for each team but I think Boston has long since been rumored to want him and they have The Grizzles pick and a lot of young talent which they could use to try to pry him away from Memphis and make a run with Irving/Gasol/Horford/Hayward and whatever is left.

Point being Toronto doesn't have the assets to get him in town unless Memphis really likes Jonas V and Powell

Oklahoma has Chicago's 2nd rounder in 2018 unprotected which should be low 30s and we don't have a pick. I could see something like Bebe for that 2nd rounder and Nick Collison or Dakari Johnson and another minimum guy. OKC gets a useful backup 5 and we still get a chance to draft someone in the summer to grab another forward prospect since Anunoby, Siakam and Caboclo all have potential but aren't necessarily likely to fill the 2 holes there. Or Bebe for Grant straight up if we're truly desperate for a combo forward at the deadline.

OKC traded Kanter and Chicago's 2nd, so Bebe for Grant makes a ton of sense for both teams.

We have to have the option to play Ibaka at the 5 in the playoffs depending on the series, so even if he can still cover 10 minutes a night at the 4 (along with about 25 at the 5) that still leaves 38 minutes at the 4. If only one of Anunoby, Siakam and Bruno is a rotation level guy, which seems likely enough and they play 20-25 minutes a night, Grant covering the other 20-25 makes a lot of sense.

I am not advocating for or against Cousins; Its an interesting idea.
But do you think given what he was traded for last year, his value as an expiring contract with 40 games left is going to be that high?

Especially if he tanks another team within a year of his last trade?

I think a contract, prospect, and pick gets it done.
Far less if the team adding Cousins bails them out of Asik.

and thank god the raptors are not allowed to trade any first rounders, the pick we traded to bkn in caroll trade is lotto protected till 2023.

the only picks the raptors are allowed to trade are 2nd rounders 2019-2022.
2018 to suns (tucker trade), 2023 and 2024 to bkn is conditional.

I'm not disagreeing with your point, but if you think there's a good chance of him re-signing, like there was with Ibaka, then it could be worthwhile.

Here is a projected depth chart of all the teams. Cleveland looks like a mish mash of a lot of talent. A LOT of talent. Comparing our roster to theirs, they have 6 past / present allstars on their team.

I can definitely live with that. Gives us a good shot at winning the east, at least on paper. We're not throwing away more draft picks and none of the guys we're including are expected to be stars. JV will never get a bigger role here, Delon is a backup point guard and as intriguing a defender as OG is, he's also the 20th pick and likely will be a glue guy.

But he may as well add an N/G for now and waive them if someone good becomes available;

Not sure if there are many vets out there now that would help much?
