Why? Pre-season is the perfect ramp-up between training camp and real games. It's somewhere in between. The tickets are more affordable, and gives some fans their first taste of live action.
No amount of training camp is going to make players hit the ground running for regular season games. You need a semi-competitive atmosphere. I'd rather the players ramp up during preseason rather than going directly into the regular season (when tickets are full price) to shake off the rust.
Do you really need to do that 8 times...?
At least shorten it to 4 games.
