Legit check on memorabilia

Raps fam, I've been lurking since 2004 but never posted. I didn't even know I had an account, and I have no idea why I named it rapterz_is_best...

Anyways I need your help now on a legit check on a gift my wife got for me.

Seems shady to me since it didn't come with any certificate like it said it would. I wouldn't have let her buy it if I knew what it was. Looks shady to me. Image

I can verify that is a real, authentic poster of Vince Carter - not sure about the signature though.

Also I fixed your image link, you need the URL with the file extension in the [img] tags (http://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/549x733q90/922/S8JLgk.jpg)

Looks legit. My dad has the same picture hung in his basement. The autograph is in the same spot, signed with the same colour marker. Nice gift!

If you send it to me, I can authenticate it for you. I take no liability if it gets "lost" in the mail though.

I'd contact the vendor and ask for the authentication document which was supposed to be included.

First thing, or maybe the only thing you can do is go and check the hologram sticker numbers...see if that pops up with anything. They put those stickers on a lot of things obv, hats, clothing, memorabilia...I'm assuming those numbers on the sticker must mean something. May have to start doing some detective work to see what it actually brings up.

Otherwise, if it said it should have came with a cert of authenticity, maybe reach out to the seller and see if they can be helpful in any way with providing details.

The signature looks good though. I'm no appraiser or VC historian, but its fairly close to what a lot of his signed memorabilia looks like. I know ppl can fake it, but all I'm saying is it looks like a job well done in that respect.

Good luck!

Likely legit. Back in the day Vince was signing a ton of this kind of memorabilia, which is why its not worth much.

Appreciate all the replies. Surprisingly high ratio of helpful to sarcastic posts.

Checked the hologram number and nothing came up on NBA.com. I'll reach out to the seller for the certificate.

Thanks again

You have to check the number on the hologram on the authenticators website. Does it say on the hologram/sticker who the authenticator is? The bigger authenticators out there are PSA/DNA and JSA. But do look into getting the certificate of authenticity from the seller, you don't really need it as long as the hologram is there with the verification number, but it's still good to have.

I bought a VC signed rookie jersey for like $90 on ebay like 6 years ago. Everyone else who had signed VC jersey's were selling them for like $200+. I found it a little skeptical, but at $90 I didn't care and took the chance. Turned out to be legit, they sent the certificate of authenticity as well.

That looks legit. I've studied handwriting and forgery before, compared to other examples of his authentic signature it's either legit or really well done.

Besides it's the thought that counts! :D

Yeah, unless you are gonna try and resell, just pretend it's all good. For all you know, it could be.

I bought a few pieces at the Raptors online auctions they used to have way back in the day including (all autographed with certificates from MLSE):

- VC game worn jersey (purple and black)
- VC warm up track suit (purple and black)
- Alvin Williams game worn jersey (purple and black) - personal fav and didn't realize these items were like double and triple XL

Serious question. How does one go about checking out how much these would be worth? After the VC debacle, I put them in storage and forgot about them.
